Dope is the best song on Artpop. It's sad that people are too vapid to understand that it is truly art. Hell yeah she is singing it with slurred vocals and screaming throughout half of it - would you sing a song about depression and drugs in a pleasant tone if you yourself were depressed and drugged? I wouldn't think so. The critics loved this song because you can truly feel pain and power in it. It's not wrapped up in a cute little package, it's Gaga giving it to you like it truly is. It's reality. You aren't supposed to feel comfortable and good because the song isn't about that. Real performance art.

Of course, the critics she appealed to were the more artsy types that don't really swallow mainstream music so surrounding a very enraged and gritty track around a bunch of EDM music was probably not the best idea when it came to those same people reviewing the album. The song is simply not digestible to certain people and the album is not digestible to certain people. This is where the critics had confusion regarding the album.

Like honestly "Aura" to "Sex Dreams" is flawless, "J&D" is obviously (but I guess that's the point of ARTPOP...), "MANiCURE" all the way to "MJH" is amazing (except for "Swine" which is pretty annoying ) and then "Dope" is a travesty, but quickly redeemed by flawless "Gypsy" and QUEEN and potential highlight of Gaga's career "Applause".

I better not see too many success-obsessed monsters hating on ARTPOP just because it didn't give you better receipts to brag about on a pop forum.

I've noticed the more "artsy/indie" music lovers tend to really like Aura. I think we overrate how big a disaster it would have been, there's a market for its sound. But only the demo version would be deserving of that thought.

Marry The Night is her best song but is NOT radio friendly at all. I had a heart attack last week when someone told me that the radio version cuts out the breakdown at the end - like, the whole song is about building up to that level of chaos and madness; forget rules and convention, just ****ing marry the night and let loose!

I put in the Cyndi Lauper tidbit for irony because I'm sure a lot of people read that thinking I'm taking things too seriously but it really is true. Sometimes you need to interpret songs and think on them to understand their beauty. Not everything comes at once.

Imagine if she had arrived on the VMAs red carpet in a look like this:



It would represent Stefani. Throughout the show, her hair would be bleaching and would sit in the mint blue cap from the video. When she closes the show, her performance would have her reciting the Prelude Pathetique. During the monologue, there would be a white sheet covering the stage, as the silhouettes of dancers performing ballet were projected on the screen.

After the monologue finishes, the keys from the beginning would start to play. The white sheet would lift up, and we would see Gaga in a black robe singing the first verse. Her hair would be in the triangle shaped wig she had during the "Marry the Night" era. Behind her is a set built to look like a dance studio, with mirrors and a balance bar. As the she starts to sing "I'm gonna marry the night, I'm gonna marry the night, I'm gonna marry the niiiiiiiiight", she rips off the robe and appears in the outfit she wears during the dance studio scene (except she's wearing black shorts instead of spandex). She finishes performing the first chorus when the music stops and the lights go out.

She changes the blue-jean bra into the shirt she wears in the fiery car scene, and then the lights go back on. The wall of mirrors shatters, and reveals the set from the Grammy Nominations performance. The music begins, and she performs the second verse. When the second chorus starts, tons of pyrotechnics light the stage, and the set glows a bright orange.

As the bridge begins, she puts on the red dress from this outfit:



While she sings the bridge, a huge circular staircase rises from beneath the stage. She slowly climbs the stairs as she sings the final chorus. During the acapella "ma, ma, ma-marry, ma, ma, ma-marry, ma, ma, ma-marry the night" part, she sings and claps with the audience at the top of the staircase, which would look something like this.



During the "the NIIIEEEEIGHT" part, the stairs would quickly descend back down until the stage was flat again. She would keep singing, and then, during the last few seconds of the song, she would put on the metallic metal hat, and do that little pose she does at the end of the video

This would've slayed.
