Hi everyone! I was insanely busy today, running around from place to place, trying to get a million things accomplished. I made sure to check the awards on my phone, and my mouth was agape so many times while reading this thread. I can not even BEGIN to thank you all in an adequate fashion for the amount of support and love you showed me during this awards ceremony. First with the plethora of nominations, and now with these victories -- I am beyond thrilled. It's amazing for me to reflect upon the past year or so. It was March 18, 2014, when I saw "Survivor: ATRL Edition (Season 4)" as a brand new thread. I had recently started a mini obsession with the actual TV show, and I wanted to try my hand in playing an online version of it. So, I immediately signed up. Who knew that it would be the portal into a whirlwind world of fun and friendship. Interestingly enough, I had actually entered the Games section once or twice before this date. I had a quick little single, called "Guess the Chart Run," which I made in February 2014. It lasted for like two days, but I remember knowing absolutely nothing about the Games section. I had messaged Katie the moderator to find out her opinion on where a "Guess the Chart Run" should be posted -- The Lounge or Games? She suggested the Games section, so I entered, and was confronted with a million threads with strange symbols and seemingly bizarre codename titles. At first glance, the Games section is pretty confusing, and I never thought I would participate much in here. Oh, how wrong I was.
Following an amazing experience in Survivor, I decided to try my hand at hosting my own game! This tournament was the ill-fated The Author, which somehow won an award today. The little game that could, I guess! That game was a series of disasters; literally, a domino chain of everything that could go wrong, with the worst part being uninterested contestants, who did not even come to me personally, and tell me they couldn't play. I delayed deadlines, desperately tried to encourage thread activity, and ultimately grew very frustrated. In the middle of this frustration came an intriguing idea. I fondly recalled the card game "Spoons" which was a staple activity of a mission trip I went on two years in a row in high school. One of the core aspects of this mission trip was to foster deep friendships with the other participants, and despite the dramatic, competitive nature of "Spoons," it was one of the experiences that brought us closer together. If you ever have the chance to put away technology for a week, and bond with people over parlor and card games, do it. Anyway, I remembered the fun that I had playing "Spoons," and I thought it would be an amazing game to adapt to the Internet. I had never heard of anything like it on the World Wide Web, and especially not on ATRL. So, as The Author fizzled, I started drafting this crazy tournament idea. Let's spice up the name a little bit... "Spoons" sounds so mundane... How about... "Let's Spoon"? A little hint of sexiness for this oft-lascivious forum.
July 8, 2014 -- the day that Let's Spoon debuted on ATRL. I truly believed in this idea. I knew that it was going to be something successful. I knew that it was going to be a whole lot of fun. And my prediction was quite correct. That next month was possibly the highlight of 2014. Posting these wacky challenges at 9 PM EST each night was never a chore, but always something to look forward to. Natural camaraderie started to build among the contestants, and the casual conversation was wonderful to see. Within a month, a family had been built, and I was so thrilled that this game had become such a success. Between this hosting experience and actively participating in so many other amazing games on here, I knew that I had found my home on ATRL. The people in the Games section were, without a doubt, the best of the bunch on ATRL (and honestly, the Internet too).
Following the first season of Let's Spoon, I have had a constant desire to host games here. It's a labor of love, I do suppose. For over 6 months now, I have been hosting games non-stop (The Elements of Music, Let's Spoon 2, The Photoshop Game 2, Let's Spoon 3, and Endurance). I truly enjoy hosting these games for you guys, and it really makes me smile to see that you are pleased with my hosting as well! All of these games have been so popular, and I just really enjoy creating a little world for you guys to join in on conversation, in order to build friendships and have fun. This section is an escape from the stresses of the real world, and I am so glad we all can take part in that!
Thank you all for your incredible response to my games. It means the world to me, and your positive experiences in my games absolutely, positively make hosting worth it. It can be difficult some times, especially when life can be so busy, but seeing your love of the Games section fuels my fire to continue. I love you all so much, and I am looking forward to a fantastic year #2 in the Games section. We are truly a family, and I know that the ties made in the games here are unbreakable. Thank you for your votes during this Awards Ceremony -- I am exceptionally grateful and humbled by these awards. Thank you to the ceremony hosts, dwuw and Celebrate. You guys did a phenomenal job!
Let's slay the rest of 2015, guys!
Much love,
~ Element
