JEIBERT's Best of 2012 | aLBUMs: #47-#46 + sINGLEs: #89-#87
*Lay-out suits best in LiveWire color scheme
CONOR MAYNARD - "Contrast"
| Released: July 30, 2012
Genre: Pop, synthpop, dance-pop, pop rock
Label: Parlophone
Producer: Pharrell Williams, Stargate, Benny Blanco, The Invisible Men, Midi Mafia, Crada, Lucas Secon, Quiz & Larossi, Eagle Eye, The Arcade, Parker & James, DetoNate, Rami Afuni
TOP 5 TRACKS:
01. Can't Say No
02. Vegas Girl
03. Animal
04. Turn Around (feat. Ne-Yo)
05. Better than You (feat. Rita Ora)
After having 2 entries on the singles list on previous appearances, Conor once again returns in the list with his debut album "Contrast" here. As previously mentioned by me, his voice is oozing its sex appeal. Those whispery vocals, those falsettos, it is really great for such an ear tease. I can't help him but comparing this album as a Justin Timberlake way of delivery. But for me its all good, because in my opinion, it's that musical route and lane that Conor's definitely leading unto. Overall, I was damned impressed!
Last Year's #47: Dia Frampton - "Red" |
GOTYE - "Making Mirrors"
| Released: August 19, 2011
Genre: Indie rock, indie pop
Label: Eleven
Producer: Wally De Backer
TOP 5 TRACKS:
01. Somebody That I Used to Know (feat. Kimbra)
02. Eyes Wide Open
03. Smoke and Mirrors
04. In Your Light
05. I Feel Better
After making an entry at the Artist list last update, here's Gotye once again this time on the albums list! Now this album is the sole entry where all songs are written, composed and produced by a sole person, which is Gotye himself on his own farm!. Now isn't that incredible? I dunno, but listening to this record, its definitely in a unique league on its own and the details on how the album sounds was like meticulously studied and made. Despite not my favorite genre, it is by far one of my most favorite albums in indie music in general.
Last Year's #46: Vanessa Carlton - "Rabbits on the Run" |
RECAP: 65-64 | 63 | 62-61 | 60 | 59-58 | 60 | 57 | 56-55 | 54 | 53-52 | 51 | 50-49 | 48
BRUNO MARS - "Locked Out of Heaven"
| "...''Cause your sex takes me to paradise, Yeah, your sex takes me to paradise, And it shows, yeah, yeah, yeah, 'Cause you make me feel like, I've been locked out of heaven, For too long, for too long, Yeah, you make me feel like, I've been locked out of heaven, For too long, for too long..."
Album: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1: (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Release Date: September 27, 2011
Genre: Soul, R&B, pop
Length: 4:17
Label: Chop Shop, Elektra
Writer(s): Bruno Mars, Moe Faisal, Philip Lawrence, Ari Levine
Producer(s): The Smeezingtons
Weeks on Chart: 6 weeks (still charting)
Peak Position: #05
After Bruno at the last update, comes another entry from him in this one! Welcoming the start of his sophomore era, is this lead single. As we all notice, it sounds like a straight hit song coming from the 80's with its pulsating beat, organic instrumentation and with his vocals, it sounds like a knock out jam! Plus, the video so psychedelic, that it reminds me of those Motown era parties with all the tone and texture of it! Anyways, I still consider this as one of his great singles but not his best.
Last Year's #89: Cheryl - "The Flood" |
MAROON 5 - "Payphone" (feat. Wiz Khalifa)
| "...I'm at a payphone trying to call home, All of my change I spent on you, Where have the times gone, baby it's all wrong, Where are the plans we made for two?If "Happy Ever After" did exist, I would still be holding you like this, All those fairy tales are full of it, One more stupid love song, I'll be sick, Now I'm at a payphone.."
Album: Overexposed
Release Date: April 17, 2012
Genre: Pop, funk
Length: 3:51
Label: A&M/Octone
[B]Writer(s):[/B ] Adam Levine, Benjamin Levin, Ammar Malik, Dan Omelio, Shellback, Cameron Thomaz
Producer(s): Shellback, Benny Blanco
Weeks on Chart: 10 weeks
Peak Position: #04
Now now, I was not intimidated nor interested with this song, despite one of the standouts or should I say just like their album? overexposed on the radio, and on the charts! I thought it was bland and pretty much sing along-ish. I'm glad it didn't reached #1 on the Hot 100 but it did served its chart power and longevity. But alas, it actually hovered around the lower 20-30 on my countdown and only reached as high as a peak of #4 during album release week and tumbled afterwards.
Last Year's #88: Rihanna - "Man Down" |
CALVIN HARRIS - "Let's Go" (feat. Ne-Yo)
| "...Let’s go!, Your time is running out, I’m talking here and now, I’m talking here and now, ...It’s not about what you’ve done, It’s about what you doing, It’s all about where you going, No matter where you’ve been, Let’s go!..."
Album: 18 Months
Release Date: March 30, 2012
Genre: House, Eurodance
Length: 3:46
Label: Columbia, Deconstruction, Fly Eye
Writer(s): Adam Wiles, Shaffer Smith
Producer(s): Calvin Harris
Weeks on Chart: 7 weeks
Peak Position: #04
Hit producer Calvin Harris once again shared this position, the #87 the same spot for consecutive years, but this time its with "Let's Go". I thought this was the second coming of We Found Love! but its not but at least, it's made for the clubs. I simply adore the lyrics and the thought of jamming to this in a speeding car going fast through city night life is probably the best time to play this song around. Ne-Yo is on the vocals with his persuasion to join him on whatever may it be his journey. Blast this on, and just go on with the flow!
Last Year's #87: Calvin Harris - "Bounce" (feat. Kelis) |
RECAP: 125-123 | 122-120 | 119-117 | 116-114 | 113-111 | 110-108 | 107-105 | 104-102 | 101-99 | 98-96 | 95-93 | 92-90
