08. Madonna “Give It 2 Me"
Album: Hard Candy
Genre: Dance-pop
Producer: Madonna, The Neptunes
US Billboard Hot 100: #57
4 Minutes gave us a little taste of what she had in store for us with Hard Candy, but I gotta admit that I wasn’t prepared for what it was about to come, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s very admirable how Madonna can still deliver an amazing song after many years and be able to compete and outshine many of the current musical acts.
Give It 2 Me is a dance track combined with urban beats courtesy of Pharrell, they made a great team together and the result is this masterpiece. The lyrics are very clever and sexual as Madonna sings lines such as
“Don’t stop me now, no need to catchy my breath, I can go on and on, when the lights go down…” The chorus got stuck on my head many times and while the video makes no sense, you can see Madonna looking good at age 49. The queen of pop proves she still has it with her last album, Hard Candy, and
Give It 2 Me is easily one of my favorite songs of the year.
07. Chris Brown “Forever”
Album: Exclusive: The Forever Edition
Genre: Dance-pop
Producer: Polow da Don
US Billboard Hot 100: #2
Like I said before, I started to take him seriously after he released
With You, but it was after he re-released Exclusive with this single that he became one of my favorite male artists. When I first heard the song, my instant reaction was that it sounded like a male version of
Don’t Stop The Music by Rihanna, but after a few listens I realized the song was way more than that. Forever has a irresistible club style groove, that will get you to move and in a club mood. Chris Brown’s vocals are accompanied by the popular auto-tune, which truly gives a different vibe to this club joint and actually makes it more enjoyable. The chorus is too damn catchy and the lyrics are memorable,
“double your pleasure, double your fun, and dance forever, ever, ever…” After releasing his best single yet and one of the best of the year, Chris Brown is leaving the comparisons to other artists behind and making a name for himself, I can’t wait to see what he has to offer this year, it’s gonna be hard to top his song.
