I've only seen the first PA but thought it was boring. Nothing happens for the first hour.

The 3rd PA is the only one worth it. The fan setup is >>>. The 2nd one was great in theaters. The 1st and 4th Especially 4, waste of money. Marked Ones was good. I need to watch it again.

What season? Murder House (Season 1) is sort of more dramatic, but has some tension in it, and definitely a bit of violence. Asylum (Season 2) is more up your alley if you want dark, violent horror. Coven (Season 3) is the lightest, and is more camp and "evil glamour" (as Ryan Murphy called it) rather than horror.
