In the U.S. alone Emancipation of MIMI sold 6,000,000 albums and 3,500,000 singles. That's 9.5 million records from one territory.

Selling 9 million singles will never be equaled to selling 9 million albums. You have to do a lot of translating to equal a certain amount of singles to 9 million albums sold.
