Like her previous albums 3 Words (2009) and Messy Little Raindrops (2010), A Million Lights draws influences from the dance-pop and pop music genres, with also incorporating contemporary R&B and dance music.[22] Cole spoke about the sound she wanted the album to have saying: "It’s more what you feel when you hear something. It’s not that technically it needs to sound like A, B or C, it’s just how I feel when I hear it. Like when I heard ‘Call My Name’. When you hear the “do-do-do-do-do-do” it gives you that. Well, it makes you feel like you want to dance."[10] Whilst Cole was recording the album she took influence from artists such as Beyoncé Knowles and Erykah Badu.

You should have seen her yesterday, she was crazy at Jay Z's headline show. I first thought seriously she looked as young as Rita Ora. Everybody was like wait that Beyonce in a normal hoodie just being normal. One of the highlights of the radio 1 weekend many say was Beyonce.....and that's not even performing

That'd be amazing. Imagine the vocals she'd create. I really hope she goes back to doing more stuff like that as opposed to taking demos - producers providing beats and instrumentals and her just creating amazing music over them.
