100% Agree with Drip. X/Y progressed the franchise more than any other pokemon game since the originals. Wi-fi was near UNUSABLE pre-Gen 6. Remember the Pen Pal, lol? Now you can battle anyone from anywhere on the globe at anytime. You can trade with anyone, you can even do rated battles and compete on the leaderboards. They made EV training available for everyone and made it getting to the competitive scene a lot easier. The Addition of Mega Evolution changed everything (for the better) on the competitive scene and casual play. The 70 new pokemon were for the majority very well designed, which is better then 150 new pokemon not designed that well. The addition of fairy types providing a way around Dragon type other then the unpopular ice type. Character customization makes it so anyone of any race, gender, hair color, skin tone, can feel like they are actually in the game, and they are a trainer themselves. This may sound corny, (not being racist either), but imagine a black boy or girl watching the pokemon anime and saying "i want to be like them". then when they finally get the game, they can't even be a trainer that remotely relates to them, and they can't customize themselves to feel like they are in the game. I feel like this is the biggest progression it made, because now anyone who plays pokemon can relate to the trainer they are in the game, and feel a bigger connection. Prior to X/Y, people of non-white skin tones couldn't relate to their character in pokemon, and now they can.
Along with amazing 3d graphics and all the things i've mentioned, I believe by FAR that Pokemon X/Y has progressed the franchise much more then any other game in the series has.
