This is the point that I was trying to get at. Obama has tried to "reach out" to the Republicans so many times, when obviously they don't give a ****, and he's not doing the same kind of outreach toward his more liberal/progressive base.

Well I don't know about you, but I'm glad I can stay on my parents' health insurance for a few more years. Being a college grad with no job is hard.

Obviously, they can afford it. They did just fine in the '90s, and so did everybody else.

Knowing business owners, I have to disagree. The economy is obviously still in a horrible state with unemployment still at about 10%. Even business owners today would not be able to afford higher taxes....Notice how many businesses have went bankrupt. What does that equate to? Lost jobs, lost business, lost money. The country revolves around business.

Taking it to Congress is better than nothing.
There will be another vote on the Defense Bill including repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell later this year in December.

When banks are failing, the housing market is failing and gigantic auto manufacturers are on the brink of bankruptcy what exactly is there to do besides save them? The effects of their failures would be more profound than higher taxes.
I am all for smaller government but not only would it not make sense for our current situation, but it couldn't happen at all. It would just not work.
I think he's done a bit more than throw money away but you're entitled to your opinion.

I'm still in high school - so I'm not worried about that, yet.

Do you know how much each American owes the government due to the national debt? You probably don't want to even here it because it's an upsetting number.

A shame that people keep overlooking the fact that America just experienced the greatest economic crisis since the great depression. I get that it's hard to get people to realize that it could've been worse. Had he not taken the steps that he did, the nation would be in a depression. George W. Bush made the past decade the lost decade. He was truly the worst president ever, IMO.

MissTina isn't even American, and therefore cannot discuss with you the first-hand effects of Obama's policies, since there are none.

I partially agree with what you are saying but it's not the first time the country has been through the recession. What the country NEEDS is more jobs. Manufacturing jobs, stable full time jobs, etc. If a majority of the people were employed, we wouldn't be in this situation. But the amount of money Obama has given away is outrageous. He is only hurting our generation and future generations.

He prevented a Great Depression, passed Health Care, made women have equality in pay, financial reform to prevent the banks from getting America into another crisis, etc.

Exactly. Tax cuts are for the middle class and under. My dad is in the upper bracket and he is an unwavering liberal. While he's reluctant to accept another 5% chunk being taken off his salary, it's not going to stop him from taking us on vacations, much less putting food on the table.

Let's pray that the Republicans won't win a majority in the Senate in the upcoming election. If that's the case, there's absolutely no chance of it being a success story.

So two democrats sided with the republicans? Cuz there are 41 Republicans but the count shows 43 votes.
And who the **** abstained?!?!?! Cuz it shoulda been 57-43 for a right count. Or 56-44 since some Democrats are beyond ****ing retarded and need to get ousted from the Senate.

Yet another point to make: The tide has obviously shifted. Full LGBT equality is going to be a reality eventually.
I'd argue it's much more of a generational gap than a political one. Most of the people blocking progress toward equality, whether elected officials or individual voters, are OLD people. So it may take time to get there but it will happen.
LGBT equality is the civil rights movement, women's rights movement, etc. of our generation.

America has had far worse, are you sure you're well versed in the details of US history? No way was Bush absolute "the worst" - it's way too early to give him that title - perhaps he will be ranked among the worst, but I'd say Nixon, Buchanan, A. Johnson, Fillmore, and J Tyler easily snatch his wig

Must be a democrat in a conservative district, wanting to get re-elected.
