Macklemore should have released sooner. Downtown wasn't massive but it was big enough to create SOME interest.
They also shouldn't have waited three years for a follow up either.

Mac had no hit singles, no promo, or any hype for this album so his number aren't bad at all. I doubt he cares about commercial success anyways. I haven't listened to the 1975 yet but congrats none the less.

Peaked at #28 in the US. I think sales are at ~250k. It's sold 325k in the UK
