If you actually listen to the song (which I don't necessarily recommend, it's pretty scrawny), you'd notice he's talking to himself, saying he's just another white person eating up the spotlight, and he's the one "stealing" the music and the culture, he even references "The Heist".
He's not necessarily "dragging" Miley, Elvis, or Iggy, just lumping them together for being white.
Only God knows why he'd pick Iggy, and to a lesser extent, Miley, to put in the same line as Elvis though.
God this dude is even worst than miley and iggy because he dick rides himself cause he's "woke". This is just like after he won those grammy's instead of Kendrick and posted his text messages to Kendrick on twitter
Repeating myself from the Iggy thread, the verse is someone talking to him and saying he's among those listed and criticized for using black culture. He references his own album in the next line. The lyrics of the verse are from that of someone speaking to him and all the artists accused of appropriation. Y'all are kind of sad for obvious nitpicking / lack of comprehension.
- Accuses people of stealing cultures/moments that aren't theirs, yet has no problem writing about gays for a hit because he thought he was gay in the third grade.
- Calls out Iggy and Miley yet can't call out himself
He's the worst kind of person, a true tumblr sized SJW, delete it.
So we're still continuing the hate campaign against a group of people who happen to highlight and bring awareness to social injustices? I agree that some take it too far but this is coming off as really non-progressive and kinda backwards.
How is he being a hypocrite when he actively recognizes black struggle, recognizes where his music originated, and continually supports the black community and speaks up when something **** happens? I thought he had some good points. I don't see anything wrong with pointing out when other people are being racist, especially when you're doing practically everything you can to make sure you're respecting the culture of what you're doing came from.
He has probably, more than any other white rapper, acknowledged that his music is a borrowed genre.
The lyric was simply him using his platform and perspective, in an attempt to call out those who refuse to acknowledge this fact at all and remain in denial.
It would be a "pot calling kettle black" situation if he was ignorant and defensive about the issue - but he isn't - and this is an attempt to show his awareness of privilege.
Why is ****ing MACKLEMORE saying this? sis they say this about you too and you are WHITE what on earth what was he thinking this won't make them accept you more Macklemore lmfao.
