According to
Billboard when they reported that Beyoncé was the #1 selling female album of 2013 with three weeks of sales, "The 2013 sales tracking year began on Dec. 31, 2012 ended on Dec. 29, 2013."
But you are right about that tracking period for their official year end charts so they're using two different criteria I guess between the chart and the article.

a similar aritcle rating them in the same way, BEYONCÉ still comes in at #6 for 2014. That is hardly a bad statistic for an album that supposedly "tanked" a month after debut.
