I'm glad you guys like a few of the tracks that made it! Let's keep this going!
050. Christine and the Queens-“Christine”
We could say that Christine is the French answer to Lorde, and we wouldn't be entirely wrong. Yet Christine stands out because of her dancing, her passion when it comes to performing, and her fight against traditional gender roles and the visibility of queer people. One of the great jewels of 2015.
049. Florence and The Machine-“Delilah”
Delilah is simply an anthem. Florence's best album gave us some of her best singles ever too.
048. Petite Meller-“Barbaric”
I discovered Petite this year and I am impressed. She's very playful--but her pastel colors and baby fetish are not empty, she likes to play with these motifs to make people uncomfortable. She's an avid follower of Freud, born in Paris but raised in Israel. Inspired by Vanesa Paradis, Lana Del Rey, Yolandi Vi$$ser from Die Antwoord, and Wes Anderson--she has a great story to tell.
047. Ximena Sariñana-“La vida no es fácil”
Spanish pop music nowadays is pretty monotonous, so Ximena feels like a fresh breath of air.
046. Lana Del Rey-“High By The Beach”
This was Lana's epic return and what could've been her most impressive debut chart position to date. Oh well, the song still slays.
Commercial performance aside, the Aquarius era was brilliant. Tinashe looks amazing in this video, and the song is great
044. Petite Meller-“NYC Time”
Second of 3 Petite tracks in this countdown. NYC Time is not as explosive as her other tracks but its video was easily the most controversial.
043. Ryan Adams-“Bad Blood”
Bad Blood is inherently bad when Swift and that Kendrick dude (whose voice is so ugly) do it, but Ryan transformed it into a very good track. Props to him for that.
042. Petite Meller-“Baby Love”
Baby Love is a dreamy song full of energy. The jazz, the colorful video shot in Kenya--and the accusations of white gaze, imperialism, racism that filming it there caused (Wildest Dreams who?)--, the innocent lyrics. It is just too much.
041. Coeur de pirate-“Oceans Brawl”
Coeur de pirate returned with her most interesting material production wise and an attempt to charm her Anglophone fans. Her English music almost touches her French material in terms of quality. Almost.
065. Tame Impala-“The Less I Know The Better”
063. Jamie xx featuring Romy-“Loud Places”
061. Calvin Harris featuring HAIM-“Pray to God”
060. Wolf Alice-“Moaning Lisa Smile”
056. Modest Mouse-“The Ground Walks, With Time In A Box”
053. Nate Ruess-“Nothing Without Love”
052. Florence and The Machine-“What Kind of Man”
051. Ellie Goulding-“Love Me Like You Do”
049. Florence and The Machine-“Delilah”
047. Ximena Sariñana-“La vida no es fácil”
046. Lana Del Rey-“High By The Beach”
Thank you for commenting guys! We're closer to the #1 each day!
040. Jamie xx featuring Young Thug & Popcaan-“I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)”
This song is the quirkiest song of the year. It feels so original, too. Props to these gentlemen!
039. Brandon Flowers-“I Can Change”
Brandon promises change in this song, and it's a promise that he kept musically. His solo material sounds great compared to his recent stuff with The Killers.
038. Saint Motel-“My Type”
Wes Anderson is quite influential, right? This song is great to sing and dance along to. Such a shame only Europe and American alternative radio paid attention to it
037. The Weeknd-“The Hills”
At first this song sounded weird but I ended up liking it a lot. They played it a lot at the mall.
036. Tobias Jesso Jr.-“True Love”
Tobias is the man. He is a man that is not afraid to show his feelings in a song--and that impressed even Adele.
The whole of HBHBHB was meant to be played at festivals, and this song in particular is so full of life. Songs like this one make Welch a future legend.
You can't deny Brandon's love for making music. Good music. Suck it, Pitchfork.
029. Cage The Elephant-“Mess Around”
Had they released sooner (gosh, why do they love Q4 so much?), perhaps this would have ranked higher. Cage is just THE band. Their rock is the best kind of rock there is.
028. MØ-“Kamikaze”
Denmark's new national treasure got help from Diplo and traveled to the Kiev ghettos to film this. It is everything really good, from the song to the video and her trashy outfits.
027. Carly Rae Jepsen-“I Really Like You”
Carly came back, sweet and naive as she is. This is her signature sound, and it just works great for her. A few of us are here for you, Carly!
026. Tove Lo-“Timebomb”
The competition between the Nordics is tough man. The Swedes gave us the great Tove Lo for us to rejoice--her album Queen of the Clouds is brooding melody after another. Timebomb is a pretty nice video, too.
