So you would say that a Top20 selling 75k in the 2000s is bigger than a #1 selling 74k in 2015?
What's next? All pre-2006 singles are flops because they didn't smash on iTunes? Times and the way we consume music change. Let's make the Hot100 based on Casette sales again then.

But Bey/DC were doing R&B music back then and the genre wasn't that global. DC's albums actually sold very well outside the U.S. considering they were R&B.
And Christina didn't release as much as Britney back then and her first album was local as hell. Her Spanish releases obviously don't count since they were never going to sell as much as her English releases.
Just see how Britney failed to move over 300k copies of her last album now that the bubblegum pop era and the peak of album sales both happened a long time ago.

50 Greatest Album Covers of All Time
BEYONCÉ - 36
Quote:
The lasting significance of the cover art for Beyoncé’s 2013 surprise release Beyoncé should come as no surprise at all. Not just because anything the ***Flawless female does becomes instantly iconic, but because the simple pink knockout typeface over a plain black background is what contemporary design dreams are made of. The color-font combo became a classic and found its way to shirts, mugs and memes the world over.

The 35 Greatest R&B Artists Of All Time
Beyoncé - 21
Quote:
Substitute R&B’s Destiny’s Child for The Supremes and it’s easy to see the parallels between Diana Ross’ superstar trajectory and Beyoncé’s. A compelling and creative force as the frontwoman for music’s last great girl group, Beyoncé hasn’t looked back since her solo album debut with 2003’s Dangerously in Love. Taking the gauntlet from Ross, Michael and Janet Jackson and aiming for the stratosphere, Beyoncé’s creative fearlessness and distinctive four-octave vocal range have tackled female sexuality/empowerment, love and relationships via a core R&B sound that adventurously integrates soul, funk, hip-hop, pop and other elements.

25 Greatest Pop Hooks of All Time
Single Ladies - 12
Quote:
A couple of arguments could be made for the hook here: Is it "All the single ladies, all the single ladies"? Or is it "If you liked it then you should've put a ring on it"? The real question: Why decide? They're both instantly recognizable and instantly iconic -- and tailor-made for the bouquet toss at your next wedding.

This list is a joke. Weeks spent on the chart can't be compared because older albums weren't even allowed to chart on the BB200 for the longest time, thus missing out on many weeks Billboard being a biased mess as usual

I feel like I should be suing them or something. Billboard's supposed to provide us all with receipts and entertainment.
What are they expecting, stans at high positions to feel proud when the best-selling albums in history are outside the T100.
Yay for them I guess? Perhaps there's some elusive drags in there somewhere but I don't see one. Not one.

Apparently according to Billboard an album that spent 300 weeks on a chart but sold 4 million is bigger than an album that spent 100 weeks on the chart and sold 15 million (just an example). Billboard has lost all credibility, especially when they didn't allow catalog albums to even chart for many years, making these lists useless.

#12 The Fame - Lady Gaga
~4.8M sold, #2 peak, 48(?) weeks in the top ten, highest sales week of 169k (in its 61nd week)
Year-end: #8 2009, #4 2010, #56 2011
#14 Come on Over - Shania Twain
~18M sold, #2 peak, 54 weeks in the top ten, 62 weeks of 100k+ sales, highest sales week of 355k (in its 110th week)
Year-end: #195 1997, #5 1998, #3 1999, #20 2000
Decade-end: #3 1990s
I'm not picking solely on Gaga but clearly their methodology is flawed and heavily favours newer acts
|
Yeah, this list is a biT of a mess, I'm not buying a lot of it. Saying the Fame is the 12th most successful album of all time on the BB200 just strikes me as straight up weird.

This. They're just picking and choosing which albums are the "biggest of all time" without even including actual sales. Messy

The older generations of racists in the United States must be so proud that the hit record they used to mock blacks during slavery and blackface minstrelsy shows is at #1 on the Greatest of All Time Hot 100 Songs list. BIGGEST SONG EVER!

I was laughing when I first read the list. After reviewing it thoroughly, it's like the legacy of music just died.
No doubt people will continue to post about these dumbass lists as if they're of some importance.
