If I three wishes I would nominate Marion Cotillard ("Macbeth"), Cynthia Nixon ("James White"), and Charlotte Rampling ("45 Years"). Rampling would deserve it and I think if she gets nominated she might even have chances to actually win.

Also, I hope Jennifer Lawrence doesn't get nominated again as I think she's overrated (and she didn't even deserve her Oscar) but I assume that's inevitable.

Competition for Best Actress is not weak this year. There are many actresses in the hunt actually, and Brie Larson, Saorise Ronan, an Cate Blanchett are ahead of Jennifer Lawrence in the preditictions.

I'm officially moving Rooney Mara and Alicia Vikander into Best Actress after the Golden Globes decision to not validate their supporting actress campaigns, and I think the Oscars will follow suit. If the Globes bought Kate Winslet in supporting for The Reader, but won't touch this, I don't think the Oscars will either.

I mean I agree to an extent, but I hate category fraud, like Supporting is supposed to be for supporting, not the lead that is a lesser star or who gave the lesser performance but would do well in supporting.

I think this year Rooney Mara would be probably one of the worst examples of category fraud in history. Having seen Carol, Rooney Mara gives the stronger performance between her and Blanchett, but they tried her in supporting because it's Cate Blanchett.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind Cate Blanchett getting snubbed in Rooney's favor if it weren't for the fact she had Truth, which she was fabulous in but stands no chance of getting in for, as well. There's so many great performances this year that I feel like with Cate's already 6 nominations and 2 wins, that one of the other great performances from a less recognized star would do well to get in.

I'm so glad Rooney is in Lead Actress category. She had equal screentime and she was the better of the two. Maybe if the movie was so loved by the academy we can see a surprise nom for Sarah Paulson now, she truly is a supporting actress. Not that her performance was mindblowing or anything but I just love her

With both Vikander and Mara moving to lead though, Kate Winslet will easily get another Oscar.

Oh wow. I'm glad tbh. I'm sick of category fraud. Now, it's all about who's not getting in with some great performances this year.

Why can't Cate just go supporting where she would have a better chance of winning..Rooney will most likely get the nom. It's going to be tough with Brie and Saiorse already being sure bets as nominees.

I'm unsure what to think of it, tbh. Early reax to TH8 are not that great, many saying that the film dragged and could've been a lot shorter, and that it's not going to win best picture. I haven't heard anything SUPER strong for JJL, yet.

That being said, and I am a Kate Winslet stan, but I can acknowledge what the situation is, and if JJL gets the reviews she needs, I think it's gonna be a race between her and Kate, probably like 60/40 JJL to win. While Kate deserves to win another since she should have won for ESOTSM and S&S, she's been gone from the Oscars for 7 years and this could be a comeback nom of sorts for her.

JJL has never been nominated despite a good career of performances, including many who thought she was snubbed for Georgia in 1996 (probably one of the most awesome Best Actress years with so many worthy performers getting snubbed, Nicole Kidman- To Die For, JJL- Georgia, Kathy Bates- Dolores Claiborne, Julianne Moore- Safe, to name a few)/ I think sentiment could be on her side.

i agree! I think things will be interesting this year as opposed to previous years. Last year's Best Actor was the closest thing to a race we've had in a while

It should at least be nominated for best picture. If the main reason for expanding the nod to 10 was to accommodate other genres, then now is the perfect time to recognize the best scifi/action movie in the last 10 years.
