As an artist, something has to change as your progress through your career otherwise you are, indeed, stagnant, and not artistically (and even mentally) growing. Adele doesn't have to change everything about herself. She doesn't need to do a pop track. But she does need to expand in some way. Slow songs about heartbreak/pain is
extremely reductive. Make a slow song about something else. For instance, the majority of Lana Del Rey's songs are slow and sluggish, but at least her subject matter is varied.
