It felt a bit all over the place for me but I really enjoyed Clara and Missy's scenes together. The writing, overall, has improved drastically and there seems to be an actual sense of mystery now.

Much better than last years opener, which was a bit of a snoozer. I was more excited about the new opening than the EP or new doctor

I still find that Seasons 6 opening was the best since Moffat was head, but this definitely comes second.
Tbh I can't think of an opener that was this good even in the RTD era tbh. It's definitely;

The Impossible Astronaut > The Magician's Apprentice > Asylum of the Daleks > The Eleventh Hour > Smith and Jones > Partners In Crime > Deep Breath > Rose > New Earth

The opening episodes for the RTD era really aren't as good as I thought they were. His Final EP's though >>>>>>

Can we talk about the shot where Missy realises they're on Skaro and she gets this really great close-up and you can see her pupils dilating as she begins to sync with the atmosphere. That was so well done it made me WEEP.

My only complaint is that at times it was hard to hear what Davros and Missy were saying, especially when they got whisper-y. Jhene Aiko realness

They never mean it in a literal sense, except in the 2013 trilogy (Name of the Doctor, Day of The Doctor, Time of The Doctor).

Also the whole of Series 6 revolved around the Doctor going to his death and when that didn't happen, they moved straight on to "he's going to die at Trenzalore!"

Kinda.

They saw the Doctor be killed, so they knew he was going to die. And he did actually die. River just re-wrote history at the end, and he didn't.

I kinda get what you mean, but each time they approach it differently. You know he's not going to die, but it's the thrill of watching him get out of it.

The Doctor was always escaping death. Even in the classic series there were episodes where he "died but not really"

Yeah I agree, it is exciting to watch and Series 6 is one of my favourite seasons. I just hope this season they focus on another death, maybe Clara's

Series openers seem to be the one thing Moffat does a lot better than RTD I agree with your order except I'd probably say Deep Breath was better than Smith and Jones

RTD's opening episodes were so much better imo. I mean, we learn more about Martha as a character in Smith and Jones than what we find out about Amy in her entire series 5 run. Like. And don't even get me started on Rose's first episode.

Partners in Crime is my personal fave. I like that it has a 'lighter' atmosphere to it than the other openers.

The only reason we learnt less about Amy was because her past was part of the series arc mystery. Moffat sacrifices character relatability for the sake of character mystery which is kinda sad, I miss having normal companions

But still Amy in the Eleventh Hour >>>>> Martha in Smith and Jones

I hope the next companion is just ordinary and we don't have to go through a series long story arc to find out what's so special about them
