Like just relaxxxx

?????
the picture is literally saying "hey guys, please don't rape"
the reactions are literally "OMG SO MEAN!!!!"

Oh christ you can't honestly believe that's what I meant
There's no need for the accusatory tone towards men. It helps no-one. Breathe.

Nah, it carries a heavy implication that all men are rapists i.e. "send this to all the men in ur life"

how is that not a sweeping generalization? why shouldn't the statement be don't put drugs in people's drinks? is she implying that only men spike drinks? don't even come and talk to me about her not implying that only men can be rapists when the stupid list all puts women as victims and not one single 'man' or at least people can be seen in that list. it's a one sided, ignorant, stupid list
|
What a mess.
First of all, spiking drinks is one of the main ways women get raped in parties and bars etc. is saying 'don't drink and drive' implying all people who drink alcohol are drunk drivers? Is it implying all hit and runs are committed by alcohol drinkers? Is it saying people who don't drink alcohol never get into road traffic accidents? No it's just telling people not to drink and drive.
The exact same logic applies for not spiking girls' drinks.

and telling women how to avoid getting raped is a heavy implication that they deserve it if they don't take precautions

The list itself is not implying that all men are rapists. Sarah telling people to send this to ALL the men in their life is. The list remains harmless and kinda funny.

Stackhouse, are you straight? because Im pretty sure gay men have enough common sense to know these arguments regarding men as rapists are not about them.
When women talk about misogyny: gay men are apart of the problem
When women talk about rape: gay men are not apart of the problem
Its not that hard so I dont understand why you are personally offended. Even if they were "generalising" men, the demographic of men they are "generalising" is not the demographic you are apart of

You are wrong, go back to Tumblr.

Precisely no one is saying that all men rape. Literally no idea where anyone is getting this notion from.
Sarah Silverman (mostly jokingly, I presume) told her female fans to send that list to every man in her life. If those men aren't planning on doing any of those things in the list, it doesn't apply to them. She's mostly just trying to make a point about victim/rapist blaming anyway, rather than issue some PSA to all potential rapists (i.e. literally ALL MEN!!!11) as some people here think.

But anyway, these things don't really serve a purpose.I understand that she has a message, but 'tell rapists not to rape!' will never be a solution lol.We could also tell thieves not to steal, murderers not to murder and mosquities not to bite. All problems solved..Nope.The world will never be an ideal place.
And although the victim should not be blamed if something goes wrong, there's also nothing wrong with telling women to stay cautious and behave responsibly. You can never make sure that you'll be safe, but atleast you can reduce the possibilities.

Yeah I wasn't talking about that
I was talking about this strange meme that seems to be circulating the dregs of Tumblr, where people mock men who object to being labelled rapists by saying "not all men!!!!1111!! boo hoo " as if there's something wrong with not liking to be accused of one of the most disgusting crimes on this planet

oh my god.
yes there is something REALLY wrong with telling women to "behave responsibly" (wtf is responsibly anyway????????) so they don't get raped. that is indirectly victim blaming and it's WRONG.
if your kid hits another kid and makes them cry, do you walk over to the other kid and give them advice on how to not get hit in the future, or do you tell your kid to stop hitting other kids????

It's a tongue in cheek male version of the tips they hand out to women for how they can "avoid" being raped as if any behavior other than encountering a rapist can contribute to one being raped to begin with. Oh poor, poor men. Women get spammed with **** like this constantly, but the sad part about it is it's not a joke. If a man reading that is seriously offended by those "prevention tips", I implore that man to imagine how it must feel for a rape victim to open their social media and see the nonsense that is thrown at women about rape "prevention"? Sometimes the shoe has to go on the other foot for the feeling to be understood, but the problem with that is so many refuse to see beyond themselves hence the, "but I'm not a rapist!!!111!!111" idiocy.

I wouldn't really say it's wrong. It's not ideal, but unfortunately we still live in a world full of rapists. Not reminding women to stay safe is kinda dangerous.

victim blaming isn't wrong?

also funny how we live in a "world full of rapists" but literally no man is a rapist (or so they say)

Right and if we do happen to get raped all people care about is what we were wearing or how much we had to drink as if that justifies the mans behaviour. A disgustingly large percentage of rape cases go unsolved so thousands of women are at risk if the rapist isn't charged. The fact that rape is so hard to prove, police/medical professionals that don't act quickly enough with rape kits etc are part of the problem

also the fact that women are too scared to press charges because they know that people are going to think that they're to blame unless they "acted responsibly"

I realize, but you were criticizing the "Not All Men" meme in relation to arguments defending Sarah Silverman and her list.
The criticisms of #NotAllMen make perfect sense here because people seem to be rushing to criticize SS's Tumblr post by saying "BUT NOT ALL MEN ARE RAPISTS!" even though that has nothing to do with anything here. It's a faulty argument, especially when no one's even implying all men are rapists, so it's really just derailing the conversation.

Um unfortunately we don't live in the perfect world and bad **** happens. I don't see anything wrong with advising women and girls to take precautions to lower your risk of being abused.
