I'm well aware of that, but she's acting like she's above people who are subpar vocalists when her own music more than cancels out her vocal talent. She has no place to judge anyone considering the stuff she puts out.
Her music is great, just because in your opinion it's not good, doesn't make it fact.
You're giving off the exact same pretentious vibe you're criticizing her for.
People in here are so hypocritical, trying to shade her for being pretentious and arrogant and saying her music isn't of quality in the same sentence. Only on ATRL.
Anyway, the pop world is full of great entertainers, not great vocalists. Kelly is looking for a rare-breed of vocalists who are few and far between.
And for those saying it wouldn't be commercially good, just look at Don't You Wanna Stay - the biggest selling digital country duet of all time (until a few months ago).
You failed so hard with this thread lol. Out of her own mouth she said it was NOT for this album it was just a few she asked over the past 13 years.
Also she has 2 duets this year John Legend and another male collaboration coming this year so it's cleary just some female singers who are scared to be compared to her voice on the same song
She said she asked "great vocalists," which is a shame because I've always thought a song written by Taylor and sung by Kelly could be an enormous hit (nevermind the fact that Taylor hasn't written a song for another artist since, like, Hannah Montana). Make it happen, Kelly.
But oh well. Reba and Vince Gill are her best collabs and she needs to continue going in that direction. I bet she would in a heartbeat (song ) if there weren't some sort of behind the scenes powers-that-be trying to keep Kelly and Carrie in separate genres.
I love how some people are saying she's arrogant, then in the same post, saying her music sucks as if its a fact. Hypocrisy much?
You guys need to listen to the interview its from, she didn't mean it in an arrogant way at all.....it looks taken out of context.
And also, you guys need to listen to more of Kelly's work before you write her off as a Pop/Rock/All of her songs sound the same/etc person. Yeah, HBS isn't anything new for her (she said herself its the introduction song to get her back out there, the rest of the album is different) but she has some fantastic material in her past few albums.
All I Ever Wanted has some fantastic songs with many different influences, this Urban influenced one being my favorite:
I also love this one:
Stronger isn't quite as versatile but its still got some standout tracks:
Her Christmas album, Wrapped In Red, is honestly one of my favorite things she's ever done (and hers, according to her). It shows how versatile she is as an artist and displays some of her best writing.
If she's asking people to collaborate with her, she more than likely already has a song in mind and its something not "typical" Kelly Clarkson. She wouldn't waste a collaboration with someone on a song like HBS.
All she need to do is place in a line in the agreement saying
"Performances must be done LIVE"
and it'll scare the sh!t outta 99.5% of the stars out there now. Lmao.
I bet one of those people is Bruno Mars. Pink probably just wants the right material. I don't really think Kelly needs collaborations. Adam Levine better not have said no to her after they did that tour together. I do think it was a lot to do with her image. Labels want to preserve their artist and Kelly has never really been A-list.
Why do you think it was Bruno? I don't know, Bruno is working on his new album, maybe he wants to focus and he has been much more strict with collabs lately. I doubt he would deny working with her as a songwriter or producer, only if he didn't had time or smth.
