He's absolutely right, although he could've said it nicer. Congratulations to Beck, but everyone in that room knew who the real deserving winner was. Who else could've pulled off the surprise release? With such critical acclaim? Beck winning Album of the Year is just academy politics at its' best. The way the academy works is you have a bunch of old men who want to stick it to "pop music" so they decide to vote for the white guy with the guitar. I would know as I am a member of the recording academy, and I got to vote this year. Why did Arcade Fire win album of the year? same reason.

I agree with everything he said. There is nothing interesting or impactful about Morning Phase. Competing against an album that literally stopped the world and started many discussions on music distribution and feminism, Beck's album shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath. If he were winning for an album like Mellow Gold or Odelay, I would not be insulting his win at all, those are actually authentic and amazing albums. But the fact that he just now wins AOTY for his most soft and uneventful album over an album like BEYONCÉ is laughable.

If you can't acknowledge these two posts and realize how deep this Grammys politics thing is and how Bey more than deserved the win, you shouldn't input on this convo.
It's inexplicable of how a surprise, acclaimed, well selling, artistic, risky album like BEYONCÉ gets snubbed for one of Beck's tamest releases to date. Don't conveniently become a Beck stan today when most of you didn't even know him prior to today. If you listened to Beck's album and Bey's album and are objective (and don't let your personal tastes get in the way) plus you go and check the stats on both, Beyonce's release was superior in all aspects.
She got snubbed for potentially her peak release and most likely won't be getting a AOTY nod or win after this point. Meanwhile, Beck may have 100 more chances since white men can make selling/acclaimed music into their 80s and beyond. Black women don't have that luxury. (Inb4 someone says "you're bringing race and gender into this it's irrelevant", when you all know it's a factor in these stupid bourgeoisie awards).
