I haven't watched The Imitation Game yet, but Still Alice and TOE are definitely on par with each other in terms of quality, although I prefer Redmayne's performance to Moore's. Both were slightly above average movies. Nothing really wowing.

To be fair, I think it's not just "ew women." It's the center of the movies:
Alice is fictional, and has someone dealing with Alzheimer's.
Stephen Hawking is a monumental figure in history, and discovers, er, the theory of everything.
Alan Turing did a ton for the war effort and the campaign is heavily pushing how he was not only unrecognized for his efforts but driven to his death because of being gay.
Awards voters tend to like it when a movie is about a Very Important Person who did Very Important Things.
