This is the Japanese Rihanna! Well not really, but they do share one thing which is the reggae style music. Lecca is great solo female with a natural reggae voice and her album 'tough village' features several way she has experimented with this reggae style. Most of the songs are upbeat but vary in terms of instrumental. Some have a jazz edge to it, while others feel a lot more urban and many tracks have such a summery vibe to them. My favorite are "growing" and "Juubun Everyday".
# 30 | Cher Lloyd - "Sorry I'm Late"
Cher has a natural fitting voice for teen bubblegum pop songs. This album is similar to her debut album, but she attempts to reveal a mature sound which are evident in "Sirens", "Sweet Despair" and "Human". All of them are my favorite songs from the album, mainly because she does these mid-tempo ballads so well. After revisiting this album later in the year I have grown a little more distant from it. However, during the time of the release it was a favorite.
# 29 | Kylie Minogue - "Kiss Me Once"
After Kylie's outstanding 'Aphrodite' it comes to no surprise the low positioning of this album. 'Kiss Me Once' is a notable step down from her previous era. The quality of the tracks are poor compared to the wonderful produced tracks on Aphrodite. With a more pop direction Kylie's catchy tracks and person favorites; 'Sexy Love', "If Only' and "Kiss Me Once' are all examples of how this album is great despite the lack of dance production. I really enjoy this album, it just seems cheesier and lacks artistry.
MILIYAH KATO
Miliyah Kato is a Japanese RnB artist who debuted in 2004 as a solo artist. I recently became interested in her music at the start of her recent era promoting LOVELAND and after the album release I became blown away by particular tracks on the album. Just as I described Koda Kumi in my recent update, Miliyah is another Japanese artist that has released consistently throughout the year. With three full-length albums and various collaborative singles and album tracks, Miliyah has proved to be a versatile, talented musician of 2014. I never expected her to become my favorite Japanese artist of this year.
BEST EASTERN FEMALE SOLO ARTIST
MAGIC POWER
K-pop and J-pop often come out favorable in Eastern music, leaving C-pop often unrecognized and unappreciated, with the exception of Jolin Tsai. However MAGIC POWER is a very creative musical group who embrace several musical genres in their dance music, such as rock and hip-hop. They are extremely exciting as they take risks in music and this risk paid off as their album ranked top spots across the Taiwanese musical charts. I really recommend anyone who is interested in C-pop music to try out this electronic band.
BEST EASTERN BAND
#80 | WINNER - "Color Ring" - If we still had time left in the year, there'd be no doubt that this song would rank higher. Just one of their great ballads on their debut album
#79 | CNBLUE - "Can't Stop" -Very addictive and upbeat track. The vocals are just flawless.
#78 | Kalafina - "Believe" - Originally a one-hit wonder, Kalafina proved me wrong with this track. It just sparkles and builds up to an epic chorus.
#77 | Eric Nam - "Ooh Ooh"- Such a cheeky little track performed with so much personality from a charismatic Eric Nam. It's a great upbeat party track that.
#76 | Cash Cash - "Take Me Home (f/ Bebe Rexha)" - Cash Cash have finally produced a great eurodance track. I think they could continue to succeed if they employ other artist's vocals in their productions rather than their own.
#75 | Gwen Stefani - "Baby Don't Lie" - Slightly weak compared to other lead singles, but Gwen works the reggae vibe pretty well in this great pop track.
#74 | LEDApple - "Who Are You?" - This song was promoted alongside a fan friendly music video and therefore made the song quite personal since I am huge fans of LEDApple. Jang Hanbyul's vocals are so beautiful.
#73 | Shakira - "Can't Remember To Forget You (f/ RIhanna)" - It's really bad that I prefer the Key of Awesome's parody version over this , but it's still a great song. I expected to hit with something a lot harder. But eventually the song grew on me.
#72 | Take That - "These Days" - This track is awesome and congrats for them taking a risk and doing something a bit more upbeat and fun from what they normally do.
#71 | EXO - "Miracles in December" - The very first song that made my 2014 playlist. It's very beautiful which focuses on the vocals rather than the other elements that have been focused on in other EXO tracks.
Kiss Me Once was alright... but I prefer her previous album!
Take Me Home is amazing! love that song even though it sounds like a 2009-2010 song
I like Baby Don't Lie but I don't think that's a first single material
CRTFY is amazing! and These Days is my "new" jam
2/3 Not a fan of Lecca but the other 2 are nice!
1/2 Miliyah
10/10 "Color Ring" and "Ooh Ooh" are my favourites from this set, hope to see more WINNER songs here
