Because society as a whole never tells you you should be ashamed of being straight. Gay pride isn't just "Oh lol I'm gay I like it," it's "Even though a large chunk of society tells me or told me that I am wrong for being who I am, I am proud of who I am."

If straight people wanted to organize a straight pride parade, they could. They just don't feel the need to because there's no encouraging factors.

Pride parades aren't going to go away, they make MASSIVE amounts of tourism dollars for the host city.

Toronto Pride is literally the biggest tourism draw for the entire city.

Y'all are going to have to learn to live with them because they're definitely not going away.

...Hello_world, my point was that they SHOULD come out. I was saying they were cowards for not coming out, so obviously I think it's beneficial if they do come out. Are you actually reading my posts?

The entire point of the gay pride parades is to make being out more socially acceptable, and considering that more people are out now than before we had gay pride parades, it seems they've done a good job. I don't understand what your point is, or how what you're saying eliminates the want for pride parades.

Just saying "oh everyone should be out" doesn't make sense. You can't force people to be out. You have to make a society where being gay is okay and coming out is an option that people don't think will lower their quality of life.

You do realize that pride parades are extremely popular, and financially successful, and will continue to be after everyone in the world is out, right?

But we do. There are a lot of people who actively preach that being gay isn't normal, so we have to organize as a community and use events like gay pride parades and political marches to make our voice heard since we are a minority group. They've been very effective, as you can see by the amount of progress gay people have made in the past 10 years alone.

Why would gay people stop having gay pride parades when our lives have gotten so much better in the time period that they've been around? That doesn't make sense.

Oh, and gay pride parades make a lot of money for cities, which benefits all people who live in the city so there's really not any sort of negative effect to having them.

What about the Puerto Rican Parades in New York City?

What about the German-American Parades in upstate New York?

I just don't really get why you're reading so much into the concept of a parade for gay people only when LOTS of different cultural groups have parades.

Not to get off topic but do we really know being gay is normal? I thought so, but honestly, can we prove it? All that gay pride has ever shown me is a bunch of guys acting out. It isn't always about 'proving or flaunting' sexuality. It can be really damaging to people who aren't into that.
