Is Shakira even relevant enough to have had a peak?
EDIT: ALL THE KATY VOTES
She was EVERYWHERE in the Teenage Dream phase and she had 5 #1s on the same album. Sure, she can't move albums, but that is NOT a small peak
TBH Adele had less impact. Her singles are totalyl forgotten & 21 had no respect out of the Grammys tbh
I don't understand this logic, if you're gonna go regional then you really can't get any smaller than Taylor and Beyonce outside the US/Anglosphere.
The poll is clearly asking for overall peak not just certain countries.
Yes, but I can only speak from my experience living and growing up in the US because I never followed worldwide charts or success for any of the pre-10s girls' peaks. Taylor and Beyoncé's peaks (Dangerously in Love/I Am... Sasha Fierce and 1989 eras) from what I experienced and observed were/are huge in the US. I don't believe Shakira's peak in the US was as big as any of the other girls listed in the poll (although the Laundry Service era was close and she also had some big successes in the Oral Fixation Pt. 1/2 era), so that's why I stated such as my answer.
Neither Britney nor Gaga is or ever will be correct.
Beyonce really isn't either, nor are Adele or Katy (see 2010 - 2012 charts for details on the last two).
Anyone saying Taylor is absolutely crazy - right now she's at stratospheric heights that 99.999% of ATRL faves couldn't get in their Wildest Dreams (promo intended). Yes, that's because of her MASSIVE US popularity right now, but she's doing better globally than ever as well.
It's between Shakira, whose peak globally was just Hips Don't Lie (which on its own was huge but her era really doesn't compare to others' eras by virtue of her appealing to a different market), and Rihanna, who... hasn't exactly peaked just yet in my opinion.

Shakira. I don't remember her ever being a huge artist but I could be wrong. I just can't pin point when her peak would have been and I can do that with everyone else so..
Ummm, yeah it actually is. Let's compare what the self titled sold in the past year in the current market to whatever else; it beats anything else Bey (or Shakira) has done.
Let's also look at touring - the OTR Tour literall grossed $5m per date. None of the pop girls can compete with that.
LOL at these people trying it with Shakira. According to Mediatraffic (as of early 2013):
Shakira – Laundry Service – 13.000.000 (Best selling album released in 2001)
C.A. – Christina Aguilera – 13.000.000 (9th best selling album released in 1999)
Beyoncé – Dangerously in Love – 9.000.000 (7th best selling album released in 2003)
Rihanna – Good Girl Gone Bad – 8.000.000 (Best selling album released in 2007)
Katy Perry – Teenage Dream – 5.800.000 (4th best selling album released in 2010)
Either way for me the answer is Katy. Still huge tho!

BEYONCE sold a lot but there are a few others who sold more than her, she didn't stand out globally. Her singles underperformed and she has been a non-event(globally) since the IASF era.

No artist since Beyonce has outsold said album globally, actually. Taylor will be virtually the only one.
