Here’s how we know that: In terms of album sales, Sunday/Monday combined was +54% over Friday/Saturday. As for the single, the Sunday/Monday combo nearly tripled in sales over Friday/Saturday with a +193%. In essence, Columbia, with seemingly infinite patience, has pulled off a classic example of “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes.” Of course, the strategy only worked because the record is so special.
