I do agree that Britney would sell better if she promoted and did it well. But we've seen in multiple countries WW that 10 times out of 10 a male will outsell a female of equal or greater status given they have similar circumstances around their career. This is nothing new.
Eminem peaked at the same time as Britney.
Both of those songs are trash. Rap God is the good song on his new album. And let's also not act like Hell: The Sequel was decades ago either.

Sis, everything Brit released since Blackout has been trash. Are you being serious?

I'd say pulling more than 100k and having a moderate hit with a trash album that had literally zero relevant promotion, not a single **** and basically the entire project being a peon in the residency's game is quite respectable. Britney could slay and be global again if she wanted to.
Eminem is an icon and he has my respect for the most part, but some fans here are getting way too pretentious.

Eminem doesn't have impact? Are you serious? A lot of rappers are influenced by him, if so many people listen to rap music in Europe it's a bit thanks to him. And what about the term 'Stan' which y'all like to use?
Oh and no controversy? Where were you when feminists were against him? When people says he was homophobic? When he dissed every celebrities, including Britney? Also, his personal problems were all over medias.
Oh and Brit said herself that he's a genius.

Femme Fatale and Circus (the latter more so) are amazing pop records. Femme Fatale is still her most cohesive album to date, involvement or not she always put out quality inside what she does best up until BioJean, also notable to mention 3 which is magnificent.

oh i was thinking about controversy relating to their art, and not that stuff- so yeah britney definitely had controversy and tons of it. thats my bad. but just as an aside, britney's breakdown, sure it got her a lot of attention but it got her zero respect. legends are respected. whereas even though em's controversy made a lot of people hate him, it also won him many admirers. and above all, i think thats really what sets the two of them apart in terms ofbeing legends or not. respect.
a heck of a lot more? ok. if you say so. i dont know britney's accolades like that. but its not like em hasnt influenced anybody, hes influenced at least 7-8 artists that i can come up with off the top of my head and probably more if i thought about it a bit.
his performance with elton john was named the most memorable grammy performance by billboard (or maybe number 2 behind p!nk idr). as well as the infamous kim performance at a concert that was more talked about than most award show performances.
i wasnt trying to downplay her accomplishments? i even said in my post that she had an amazing career.

1. I agree that Eminem's impact and influence on rap is huge. I'm not trying to discredit him or make him out as anything but a legend. My point was that Vanilla Ice did not come first and does not deserve that honor.
2. Elvis died smoking a cigarette on the toilet after falling in to deep irrelevancy. Michael Jackson was embroiled in pedophilia charges and fell in to deep irrelevancy in his later years. Marilyn's final years were comparable to Lindsay Lohan as she was slipping in to deep irrelevancy. Judy Garland was locked in a sanitarium and attempted suicide multiple times as she fell in to deep irrelevancy in her later years. Though they may have lost the public's respect multiple times in their career, they were remembered after their deaths due to the GP's affection for them. I'm pretty sure Britney doesn't need a Metacritic score to be remembered after the GP has shown her affection so many times.
3. Eminem has influenced a ton of artists, especially ones in his genre. I'm not trying to downplay him. But Britney's influenced Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey ("Heartbreaker"), Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Girls' Generation, etc. It's not right to act like Eminem's some hugely impactful star and Britney's a nothing compared to him, especially when she's influenced more artists.
4. I've never heard of the Lil Kim and Eminem performance, tbh. I wouldn't use Billboard as a source because they jump on whomever's successful at the time ("Bad Romance" was their video of the 2000s when Gaga was slaying, then it was "Single Ladies" when Beyonce was slaying, etc.). I will agree that the Elton and Eminem performance is iconic. I forgot all about it, though. Sorry!
I'm not taking shots at you, just the people co-signing in this thread and trying to act like Britney's not a legend and Eminem towers over her in every field.

I stan for Britney but.....
My vote goes to Eminem for the fact that he could still chart with his latest album. Plus, you gotta admit, Eminem is a HUGE name in hip-hop even to this day while Britney, well....

No, it hasn't. Femme Fatale has a higher metacritic score than both Relapse and Recovery.

@Eternium, sorry my quoting function was being weird. Yes, legends have often lost respect for various reasons (em has had his share of bad press too, im not delusional enough to deny it) but i think, in almost all cases, they were so respected as artists for their music that it didnt hurt their ultimate status as legends. im skeptical that britney has that
