Citrus sis...thank god for you explaining that. Because I was about to ding your grade so hard for lack of sources .
Well now that I know it's not necessary, you can ignore that part of my critique and I won't count it for the opinion part of who I think won

That was the only issue that I was a little iffy on, so I just wanted to clarify, haha. It felt strange not including them, for real, though.

Short and concise, that's what I like to see in debates. It's nothing wrong with long essays but sometimes they can become wordy and unnecessary. This is far from it and that's your main thing that I like. Definitely a plus that you sourced some of your information from reputable educational sites (always good ) and I'm pleasantly surprised by some of the statistics. I had no idea that it was going to be that much for students! . And I love how you not only effortlessly lead into the source and cite it, but you used an example to show the significance, very impressed.
One thing that I would critique is this part
Quote:
This could be a significant burden on parents with multiple children, or those with lower income.
|
I like it but I'm not completely blown away. If you could give concrete examples of how it would affect said families, that would be great. For example, you would say something like "The average family has $____ to spend per child for school and if they are using $249 for school uniforms only then ______."
That could've been better but honestly I'm just nitpicking right now. Your team did great! Keep up the good work

You made some very good points, and provided us with a lot of statistics to help back up your claims. It goes without saying that many people use fashion as a means of showing their creativity; for some it's what defines them, it's their only way of letting the world know who they are. You did a fantastic job expanding on that topic- however, the point that got me the most was the one regarding cost. The statistics provided were outrageous and totally caught me off-guard. Overall, you made a lot of excellent points and got right to the point when explaining them.

The Blue team however, gave some valid points as well. But I thought that they had put less effort in their work then the red team had. And a lot of the points they had brought up were "old" in a way. Points that I had already known, and knowing how much they could have written about not having school uniforms, I felt a little disappointing.

Hmm...where do I begin? It's nearly flawless . You see how I wrote nearly though right?
Let's start with how it's organized. I love how it's organized. It's so easy to follow. I know exactly how many points you have, where it starts and where it ends, and you even have a great conclusion to wrap it up. Bonus points because reading through all of that, as humans we are sure to miss a thing or two. However the fact that you rephrased (not just simply restate) really sealed the deal!
I read the Blue Team's argument and they stated that uniforms cost too much per student, however you made a GREAT counter-argument with you only need a few instead of a lot of clothes if you didn't have uniform. That was awesome how you countered it without knowing
It's even better that you said that conforming would be a good thing (it stops against bullying and helps the school out) because the Blue team made an argument about how conforming is a bad idea. VERY interesting and very good by the way, I can't sing my praises enough
A critque that I would like to add is the lack of an intro. While it's not necessarily needed, it helps piece together everything. For example, if I had no idea what the topic was and I went to read your arguments, I would have no idea what you were talking about until I'm 2 points in and by that time I wouldn't have remembered points you made in the beginning and would have to re-read. . Like I said it wasn't anything major, but just had to point it out to help you guys out in future rounds.
However, one major drawback is the lack of citation. Not that I don't believe you, but if you don't cite your sources how am I going to know where it came from and how reliable the source is? . That's a big blunder, hopefully you guys did well enough to keep you in it this round! And I bet you guys actually looked up your stats too, I bet you aren't lying. The source could have easily been copied + pasted in by links and you would have had your problem solved
Overall, you guys were super. The lack of intro was small but the one thing that brought you down was the lack of sources . If you had that, the decision of the winner wouldn't be this hard .

You lost me a bit during the forth point, but overall, this was a fantastic opposition to the red team. Despite not seeing their points, you were able to dispel most of them. You made some INCREDIBLE points, a lot that I never would have even thought about. Your explanation about how uniforms only push kids to be more interactive and find themselves on different levels really got me and put a lot into perspective. The affects on local shops was very interesting and got me thinking; you managed to show how uniforms could impact the community as a whole and not just the school. Your third point was also fantastic, and explained very well. You guys seemed to have been reaching a bit with the fourth point, and probably could have just combined it with the third. Irregardless, this was a well structured rebuttal with many good points that I would not have otherwise thought of.

Both poised great arguments in my opinion. The red team brought up some excellent points as to why we should allow school uniforms that I personally never thought of. I mean thinking about the environment? Never thought of it.
