This is the dumbest logic ever and a generalization.

When I first heard Happy around the time Despicable Me 2 was released, I thought it was cute. Nothing more, nothing less, but certainly acceptable for an animated film. But the song has become even more overplayed than Blurred Lines (which I love). The song is repetitive to start, so having radios and DJs play it 24/7 doesn't help.

Also, there is a myriad of songs not performed by "pop girls" on the charts that I appreciate more than Happy. They are:

Passenger - Let Her Go
Avicii - Wake Me Up!, Hey Brother
Bastille - Pompeii
Jason Derulo - Talk Dirty
Phillip Phillips - Raging Fire
John Legend - All of Me
Imagine Dragons - Radioactive, Demons
Eminem - Berzerk, Rap God

And I love all these songs based on the music presented in them, not the chart positions attached to them.

It's not very good for Pharrell's standards. I'm glad it's uplifting, but it can get very annoying. Plus, my mom sings it all the time.

ATRL is getting so laughable. They all want 'Birthday', '#GETITRIGHT' or 'BLOW' to smash, but hate Happy. Those songs are all sounding very similar.

Happy is a positive uplifting song and deserves it's success.
Also, whats up with the ppl saying 'cuz it's pharrell' - like WTF.

Everyone ALWAYS used to praise him as a genious producer for their pop girls, now that he is smashing they hate on him, riduculous.

I miss the days back when I joined this once amazing forum in 2008, peaceful sharing and talking about new music, getting excited.

Can't believe what this forum has come to.

It's really funny, when this song was released before they're like "omg underrated song of the century" "the US is LATE once again" "Why isn't this SMASHING???? It's such a feel good song etc etc"

When they see this kinda doing well "KING PHARRELL" "OMG He's coming for wigs!"

When it went number 1 "Pharrell sucks" "he can't sing for ****" "This song is annoying as ****"

This is basically their reaction to all male popstars who achieve success.

The fact of the matter is 'Happy' is indeed lauded by critics, lauded by the general public and is indeed a great song.
