Time to break open the top 10.
10. Avril Lavigne, "When You're Gone"
Opening up the top 10 is Avril Lavigne with her emotional song, "When You're Gone." The song is about how you feel when you lose someone you love. While I think she has much better ballads, such as "I'm With You," "Don't Tell Me," and "My Happy Ending," this track is still very solid and the best single off of her latest album. I just had to have Avril in the top 10 because this song is amazing and she is responsible for some of the best, most well written pop songs of the 2000s. Props to you, Avril. "When You're Gone" peaked at
#1 (7 times) and
retired on my countdown this year.
09. Alicia Keys, "No One"
At #9 is Ms. Alicia Keys, the realest, most raw artist in the industry. Ms. Keys continues to put out solid album after album, and her latest is no exception. This is the lead single off of
As I Am and I think it is one of her best singles to date. Some people think she "shouts" in this song and pretends to be something she's not (
) but that is just nonsense because this song is amazing. The video is also good - simple, yet good at the same time. Hopefully, this track will win both Grammys it is nominated for because it truly deserves it. All hail Alicia Keys.
