So? The fact that the song is being played at all is what counts.
Such a huge chunk of music listeners are using Spotify now. It'd be silly not to use it.
More people are actually listening than not, obviously.

I'm actually a bit upset by this. One of the great things about the UK chart is that it's quite fast, and they can get 30+ #1s in a year. Adding streaming will end all that and make it almost as slow as the Hot 100.

It's actually one of the bad things. It's too fast and too easy for lead singles to snatch the top position, while it's too hard for non lead singles to do so. Now streaming will even it a little bit.

With or without the addition...streaming would always have an effect on single sales regardless

It'll definately slow down the chart, which isn't neccesarily a bad thing. It'll be a lot harder for heavily frontloaded song from 1D, The Sats and more to reach the top 10

It's a shame they've done this because having a sales chart act as an official chart has been great. But I guess they're afraid that if they don't move with the times they'll get left behind. There was the same negative reaction back when they allowed downloads to count.

Stream as a whole is much more reliable way of measuring a song's popularity than sales and airplay.
Let's suppose a song is very catchy and addictive, and people like to listen to it several times. If we're gonna measure its popularity based on sales, then the song won't last very long on the charts, because it will burn out too fast.
But if we're talking about streamings, people will keep listening to that song, indicating the song is actually good and has lots of replay value.
Sales benefit largely known artists, because you can chart at #1 on your first weeks thanks to a huge following of fans.
Streaming on the other hand indicate if a song is truly popular, because the GP will only keep listening to a song if they really like it.
