BEYONCE did have promotion. it just wasnt her who promoted it. you couldnt go anywhere online without seeing things about it the first few days it went on itunes. word of mouth is the best/most effective promo. it just doesnt work for most artists because not enough people care

So if random outlets discuss you, then that's considered promo? If that's the case then every single pop star has some kind of promo
the pepsi commercial was played all the time here in the uk and the H&M posters were in every mall
Pepsi was not play in France for example and for H&M it's not because they are picture of her in bikini that people will buy an album they didn't know was coming.. But you have your opinion I respect it.
They weren't surprise releases that no one knew was coming
They could have easily surprise released the album without every single banner, but the reason they did it is to PROMOTE the album. That's all I'm saying. Whether she paid for them or not, it is still promo. It PROMOTED the album on iTunes.
Then why doesn't every other iTunes exclusive release get every single banner?
Because we already knew those other albums were coming. This one was released with no warning, it was exclusive, and iTunes wanted to make sure its users knew about it.
They don't teach marketing where y'all go to school?

So would true "no promo" mean no notification of its appearance on iTunes whatsoever? So would you have preferred for people to have to search for the album to know it's there?
TV commercials that weren't even promoting the album
And are you talking about ads that came well after the album was released yet it managed 600,000 in 3 days?
I remember watching the "beyoncé the visual album" tv ad on mtv jams every 30 mins.
But whatever, the "she made the album for the fans" is definitely the worst.
