Well I just think the Hot100 should be more about likability rather than popularity.
No it shouldn't.
It shouldn't be "OMG EVERYONE SAY YOU LIKE BLURRED LINES SO IT CAN BE #1". You can't determine exactly how much of the public likes a song either, so that will never work.
50% views of the live performances
30% other streamings (spotify, music video)
10% mentions of the song on google, twitter, facebook, IG ....
5% sales
5% radio
The funny part is people against radio because they think it will help old/established artists.
Only THREE new artists went #1 on Hot Digital Songs in 2013, so how exactly will it not also be "cheated" by old artists constantly going #1 off sales from an established fanbase?
I think sales and streaming should be 85%, and airplay at 15%. You can't choose what you hear on the radio.. And a lot of times songs are really popular but don't chart well because the radio isn't playing them
Radio stations play songs that will keep people tuned. So if a station plays a lot of rihanna songs I will listen to that station. Also a radio programmer can get an idea of what's popular by what songs get requested the most. So yes airplay is a big factor!
Anyway it should be....
50 percent sales
50 percent airplay
50 percent streaming
Also they should remove what ever allowed harlem shake to go number one. It wasn't the song it self that was popular, it was the crazy videos. Billboard should be all about music, not stupid parodys featuring a minute from a popular song. That's just stupid.
