Excuse? I do believe Stronger was just certified platinum and is crossing 1 million in sales before the end of the year.

Well at least my faves aren't getting dropped so that's good to hear
I really think its just that labels focus more on single success then album success. More singles got platinum over albums, and it's because they're cheaply priced and they don't focus on the appeal of buying a whole album. The general public as whole just isn't interested in music as much as they used to be with all the music based award shows losing viewers, and album sales going down.
I think a solution is for them to lower their album prices, It worked for Lady GaGa with Born This Way and Ke$ha with Animal.

And Gold would mean 250k, what kind of low level?

They should just change the prices of the CDs, people would buy music if it was cheaper.

I think there's only been 7-8 platinum albums this year. Gold really is the new platinum

Many artists cant even open with more than 100-200k nowadays. It makes sense.

Adele wasn't really about strategy, though. She did the minimum and got the maximum.

It would be messy and easy, every album that would have sold 250k would be considered as a success, they should just try to "fix" the situation and make people want to buy albums, they just do nothing.....

People need to realize that just because ONE person sells 20+ million albums, that DOESN'T mean that everyone else can, even at the height of their sucesss. Album sales overall are down, and certifications need to be lowered to match the state of the market.

I mean, they kind of would say that.
That being said, yes, sales need to be kind of considered in terms of overall sales - which are much lower than they used to be. But what would 1,000,000 be then? Certainly not diamond, for that's too far of a leap. What would diamond be? For every total anomaly like Adele, we need a certification like that.

I don't agree. Maybe more artist need to step it up and produce an album full of hits so the general public will feel like they should buy the whole album rather then some singles...

Adele does not define the state of the rest of the industry though. No one else is close to her level right now.

Who's saying that other artist will sell 20M? If Adele can sell albums, other artist are capable of that too. Not 20M obviously, but more than 20k - 100K. A lot of these record labels are doing it all wrong, and if it's not them. It's the artist, or their music.
