The Top 100 TV Shows: 40-31
40) "X Factor" (ITV1)
Once again the X Factor is making an appearance on my list. I’ve been live streaming the British version of the singing competition since Shayne Ward won it way back when. This season was filled with lots of talent, excitement and entertainment. I backed James Arthur from the first live show and the right man won. Baloney can **** off. Rylan won over my heart and I’m so glad he made it so far. Ella was eliminated way too early. And Union J grew on me throughout the competition. Hopefully next series will be just as good!
39) "Nikita" (CW)
The little show that could. Nikita is one of my favorite shows on the CW. Filled with action, drama, suspense, thrills, love stories and twists I can’t help but watch it every week. Nikita, a member of a black ops government agency who goes rogue once she realizes the organization has turned bad, she eventually helps to take down the organization and now is in charge of helping to disassemble the network and bring home those members who have refused to return to base and have gone rogue, acting on their own accord and doing bad things around the world. The show is struggling in the ratings but the syndication gods may be able to save it and give it a fourth season so it can hit the magic number of 88 episodes.
38) "Grimm" (NBC)
Grimm is another take on fairy tales we all grew up on. In this version, Nick is a Portland police detective who finds out he can see some humans for what they really are. They are all different kinds of creatures from the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales. He finds out he is a descendant of the Grimm family who would hunt and kill these creatures to rid the world of their evil. Nick quickly learns that not all of the creatures are evil and becomes friends with some and builds a network of those who can help him track down the bad ones who commit horrible crimes in Portland. This season we see Nick become even more comfortable and deal with how his new “job” effects his relationships with those he holds closest to him. Season 2 is even stronger than season 1 as it has really found itself. I cannot wait for it to return in March
37) "30 Rock" (NBC)
NBC’s critical darling. 30 Rock is now in its final season, and only has a few more episodes left. This season is definitely one of the best seasons in recent memory. Bringing all of the big storylines to a close, will Liz Lemon end up happily ever after? The worst part about 30 Rock this year was the introduction of the horrible character Hazel. She’s currently out of the picture so hopefully we won’t see her again. MVP of the season and show has to be Jenna. Her performance every week has me cracking up. Also I love how James Marsden has stuck around for so long as Liz Lemon’s significant other. I’ll be sad to see this great and under watched show leave us in the new year.
36) "New Girl" (FOX)
New Girl is hilarious. Jess needs to find a place to live after she breaks up with her boyfriend. She finds a group of guys who need a roommate and hilarity ensues. Jess, Nick, Schmidt and Winston get themselves into situations that are hilarious and they need to help each other guide themselves though these situations. Nick and Jess have this will they/won’t they relationship that never fully comes to fruition but everyone is dying for it to happen. We also have Schmidt pining over Jess’s best friend Cece. Hopefully the show will continue being hilarious when it returns in January.
35) "Vampire Diaries" (CW)
I started Vampire Diaries back in season 1 but dropped it after it was crap in the beginning. I eventually went back to it after a friend told me it got really good. And they were right, after the first 6 episodes or so, the show really became great. It hit its peak in season 2 where it had its best episodes and storylines. Season 3 saw a little lagging in the storylines and I hated the introduction of the original vampires, minus Elijah who is the best. Season 4 again has become a great show. Elena struggles with her new life, Stefan and Damon struggle to gain the love of Elena, Bonnie loses connection with the witch world, Matt remains useless, and Caroline and Tyler struggle in their relationship. There’s a ton more too that’s amazing. Every episode ends with a big cliffhanger and I cannot wait for it to return in January.
34) "2 Broke Girls" (CBS)
Sometimes I wonder how this show gets away with the sexual and vulgar jokes they make week after week. Caroline and Max work at a diner and live in a small apartment in Brooklyn. They have a horse as a pet in their backyard. They both have a dream of opening their own Cupcake business. They were able to track down Martha Stewart to try their cupcakes and gave her their business card. They are constantly waiting for Martha to contact them and help make their dreams come true. They eventually have to move on and try to go about their dream on their own. This season, the show has gotten even dirtier if that is possible. So many sex jokes and jokes that push the limits of what you normally see on TV. Caroline also finds herself a boyfriend (Another Veronica Mars alum so I’m happy) Will they be able to keep their dream alive? Will they be successful? We’ll find out when the show returns in January.
33) "Regular Show" (Cartoon Network)
I love Regular Show. I own a Regular Show shirt. Mordecai, a blue jay, and Rigby, a raccoon, work for Benson, a gumball machine. Yes. That is correct. They work alongside Skips, a giant creature, Pops, an old senile giant lollipop, Muscle Man, a green man and High Five Ghost. Yes. Its amazing. If you didn’t gather from the above, it is an animated show for kids but it has a lot of underlying subtext that is very adult. I find myself cracking up every episode, which is roughly 10 minutes long each. The fact that it is so short helps to watch a lot of episodes in one sitting and crack up and all of the situations they get themselves into. I highly recommend this show. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how funny and entertaining it is.
32) "Damages" (Audience Network)
Damages is an amazing legal show that has so many thriller elements to it. Patty Hewes, played by the amazing Glen Close and Ellen Parsons, played by the equally great Rose Byrne have to go to great lengths to work their legal cases, those cases usually the ones that no one else will touch and that they always manage to get done because they go above and beyond what they have to do to defend their clients. The show is met with twists and turns, death and excitement. It used to air on FX but DirectTV was able to rescue the show and the two co produced the show. The show only aired on DirectTV’s exclusive Audience Network. I do not have DirectTV so I had to wait until the show came out on DVD (because this is one of a couple shows I watch with my parents), so what I was able to see in 2012 was the 4th season. The 5th season aired but once again I will have to wait to watch the final chapter of this amazing show next year when it comes out on DVD. It’s so good and well worth it.
31) "Workaholics" (Comedy)
I went to go visit some friends from College a few year ago and they had this show on while we were hanging out. I found myself cracking up and had never heard of the show before. When I got home I had to catch up on the show. This year the show aired its 3rd season and it was one of the best. The guys work for a telemarketing company and hardly ever do their work and somehow manage to keep their jobs with all the crap they do. These stoners and borderline alcoholics get themselves into crazy situations and hilarity ensues. My favorite episode of this season is when they go to a convention with their boss to try and get new clients for the company and they accidentally give their boss drugs and she goes crazy. I was crying so hard from laughing. And now I’m laughing thinking of the scene again bahahah I can’t wait for the show to return again next year!
