Besides being my baby Daddy, Drake is one of the hottest MCs in the game. "The Motto" was such a groundbreaking single that it created a new catchphrase that will forever be a #hashtag on Twitter, Tumblr, and BGC Live.

Gotye (feat. Kimbra) — "Somebody That I Used to Know"
If anyone had asked me at least 2 years ago if a song like "Somebody That I Used to Know" would top the charts I would've looked at you side ways. But in 2012, it looked as if music consumers wanted to add a little depth to the charts.

Kanye West (feat. Big Sean, Pusha T, & 2 Chainz) — "Mercy"
Aside from being Kim Kardashian current publicity stunt, Kanye is a musical genius. Sure he's had years of being a jacka** to the world but you can't deny his amazing music. Case in point "Mercy". Every song he releases becomes some staple on the radio. He's an undeniable talent!

Kelly Clarkson — "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)"
It's hard to believe that it's been 11 years since Kelly Clarkson first burst onto the scene but with hits like "Stronger" there's no denying her lasting power in the music industry. The song is such an uplifting, positive, message that it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Only Kelly can do this.
#12 Rihanna (feat. Chris Brown) — "Birthday Cake (Remix)"
I don't give a f*ck what anyone says about this song...it SLAYS! Rihanna gave me all the ratchet Urban mess I needed and Chris added a nice little something to the track. These two have great chemistry together on music whether you agree with them being together or not.
Sure to go down as 2012's most nostalgic #1 smash single. "Call Me Maybe" is one of the most infectious and catchiest songs I think the world as ever heard. It's hard to predict where Carly Rae Jepsen will end up in the next few years but this song will remain a staple for years to come.
"If you put it down right like you know I want it"...I've been a Brandy fan since day 1 so it was nice to see she was capable returning with a solid hit that actually charted right on Urban radio. It was a different sound for her and I got my life the moment it came out.
It may be a stupid song but excuse me? Who wouldn't a big booty h*e for their birthday? Especially if you're as ratchet as 2 Chainz. This single gave me all the Urban hood rat mess I need and even more. THE Birthday song of our generation to be honest.
The ultimate alcoholic's anthem...Kendrick is such a master of words that at times it's almost impossible to understand what he's even saying but it all sounds good nonetheless. His album was a critical and chart topping success and he's bigger in the future.
Fresh face, gold mouthed, rapper ASAP Rocky entered my consciousness this year in such a big way. Not only his fashion on point but his music is pretty good too. "Goldie" is one of the best RAP records released this year. The production is especially on fire!
For some reason, I can really relate to this song. The message is so clear and understandable that anybody can put themselves in Katy's shoes and see exactly what she's singing about. Sometimes you believe what you want before reading the signs and then everything self destructs. That's why it's important to stay "wide awake".
