True. I disagree with people dropping out due to laziness but I think it's ok if they have a good reason and plan on doing something with their lives.

I hope alot of you do realize that not everyone drops out because they were lazy. Sometimes situations like pregnancy, health problems, family issues, and so on can leave people with only that option.

But if you don't have any extenuating circumstances for dropping out, and you're simply doing it because you're lazy, then honestly I can't take you seriously as a person. I'm well aware you can be intelligent and a high school dropout, but if you chose to drop out without any plan or logical reason, then I can only assume that your decision reflects your self-motivation.

I don't know about other countries, but in America our high school system is just way too easy and lackluster not to get through it with at least a C average.

Stop using famous examples, they mean nothing. It has to do with the person, and the opportunities that was available at the time.

Which means, what happened to them may not even happen to you. And out of the percentage of total dropouts, they are a tiny minority.

School is about more than just good grades, it's about engaging in a community and demonstrating social responsibility. While I won't look down on an individual solely because of his or her academic achievements, I lose respect for people who drop out without a legitimate excuse.

I couldn't care less about someone dropping out of high school. Maybe this is because I have a problem with authority and stiff shirts, though. I mean people act like finishing HS is a true pinnacle of success, but some people who drop out go on to do more with their lives and better the world more than those who graduate.

in most cases, I would think that the choice to drop out takes humongous balls.

my dad's fiancée is actually taking classes to upgrade from an LPN to an RN and she has a ninth-grade education. as someone mentioned, a diploma does not equate to success, and from what I read, they are becoming more and more obsolete with each day that passes.

So you personally know every high school dropout ever? That's still highly judgmental of you. A diploma, or a lack of one is not a barometer of someone's intelligence or level of ambition. Plenty of people manage to skate through high school and even college through cheating, and having enough money to attain a higher education even with lackluster grades. Hell, some of them I can't even understand how they made it that far because they're as dumb as a brick.

Meanwhile, a lot of accomplished people (not just in the entertainment industry) are high school dropouts. Have you ever heard of Peter Jennings? He was a highly respected news journalist, and a high school dropout. Hardly what you would call a "dumb f*ck". He would easily shut you down with his brains.

I'm surprised at how judgmental most people in this thread are. You guys should just count yourselves lucky that you've never had to consider it as an option.

I dropped out in final year to start doing tertiary study early. Got a degree a year before all my high school buddies

The question tho, I say they're alright. Who else is going to manage the staff at McDonalds? we need these people to occupy the 'average' jobs.

I seriously have learned nothing of importance since like 8th-9th grade.

Some people drop out just to go to college earlier.
