He won the presidency in 1998 after four decades of right-win dominance in Venezuelan politics. The following year he called for a constituent assembly to establish what he called a Revolution, meaning all powers were dissolved and the people were called to vote for a new constitution which passed and then he had to be re-elected under the new constitution in year 2000 that allowed him to rule during 6 years (it used to be 5 years). He won a second term in 2006 against former governor Manuel Rosales. In 2007 he tried to pass a reform to bring Venezuela "closer" to Socialism in which he also contemplated continuous reelection, meaning he could be a candidate for presidency for as long as he wanted to (it also applied to other figures like Governors, Majors and Senators) but the Venezuelan people voted against it. He tried it again the following year leaving out all the socialist reforms and basically the only amendment would be done in order for him to reelect himself a third time and so on, which passed. And now we're here.
Results should be out in the next 1 to 6 hours.
