To be honest, I find Africa to be a beautiful continent and one with some of the most fascinating and truly stunning cultures and histories in the entire world. There are many countries, like Kenya, South Africa, and recently Sierra Leone, that aren't doing too poorly for themselves. However, a large majority of the others are in seemingly-impossible situations, ones that don't seem to be developing or improving at all - Somalia and Zimbabwe, just for example.
While it is definitely true that the West likes to exploit the problems in Africa, it's quite ignorant to imply that Africa is doing incredibly well as a continent and that the majority of the countries within Africa are improving at a vast rate, when in fact, many are struggling and show no signs of true development.
Just my take.
