Well I must say that Britney did always something different, something extra. Her albums never sound like a regular pop album. But I don't really see why Blackout or In The Zone weren't safe. See if she did an album full of those rock-inspired songs like He About To Lose Me and stuff, then I would call it risky because that's not really her genre.

People tend to forget that Britney was going through a lot of criticism from the media before ITZ was released. She was being constantly portrayed as the 'cheater' in the Justin relationship and how she was the reason they broke up, etc. Then what did she do right after it? She released a sex-filled dance-pop/electropop/R&B album
To me, that's taking a risk.
