I hate when people use the "oh they've been overexposed, I don't like them anymore" excuse. This girl I work with said she loves Adele, but after she got so much exposure, she doesn't like her anymore. She said the same with Foster the People - she started listening to them first, but their popularity came all of a sudden this year, now everyone listens to them and now she hates them. I don't get it - don't you WANT your artist to be successful? Pfft.

If I like wearing the color green once in a while, but now EVERYBODY is wearing it, the color becomes less attractive to me so I'm not going to wear it anymore. The color did nothing to me, and nobody forced me to wear it, but seeing it all over the place leads to much annoyance.

This is the exact question I asked my friend. I asked her why did it matter if Foster the People get exposure, their music (the first album she listened to since last year that got popular this year) did not change. She said it's because it was "her style" of music, and now that everyone listens to it, it's not that "unique" anymore. I swear, music is becoming some type of fashion now.

Personally, the fervent adoration for lana de la rey on this board seems premature considering she has yet to release an LP. That said, this board does not feed my aversion to Lana--that's can be attributed to her lack of stage presence & the monotony of her catalogue.

The rabid hype on ATRL will affect how harshly her debut album will be criticized. Anything short of stellar will not be good enough for many. Let's hope she delivers.

I don't generally care enough about most pop music to have been influenced one way or another about any artist other than my "fave", who I guess luckily is big enough to get some attention but not big enough to get dragged into any "stan-wars", if she has any stans here at all....

lol I discovered her for myself--meaning heard her for the first time, not that I discovered her as an act.

People act like it's sooo crazy to be sick of a song because it gets played on the radio over and over again. I used to love "Just The Way You Are" until it got overplayed and I got sick of it. It has nothing to do with how POPULAR the song is. EVERYBODY knows Someone Like You, and I still am obsessed with it, but I don't listen to the radio anymore so it isn't overplayed for me
