20. The Glitch Mob– "We Can Make the World Stop"
- Who is Glitch Mob?! One of the many bands that remixed for the Tron: Legacy Reconfigured album and you can definitely tell; If you listen to anything from their debut album, it really sounds like it could belong in the Tron movie. On it's own, however, is this relaxing feeling that works so well for having it on when you want to be productive but need music to help.
19. Mayer Hawthorne - "No Strings"
- So, there are just some songs I liked this year that were not really singles. This is definitely one of them. He just sounds so... not likeable but I can't help but like the song, just because of the flow. It is so smooth and his voice works so well. It's songs like these that probably get backstage action, right? No? Oh, well, let's move on.
18. AWOLNATION - "Sail"
- This song is ridiculous and it's quite mesmerizing when you continuously hear it while driving. It wasn't until it had grown on me that I realize how it made almost no sense to me, haha. I mean, all I remembered was a catchy song that had "blame it on the A.D.D." repeated. When you look up what this song could possibly mean, it's interesting reading the different interpretations. I just like how it sounds and I like randomly quoting it.
17. Kate Miller-Heidke - "Are You Ready"
- You finally get to see where "Are You Ready" is placed! Yep, I can't hide from this super upbeat song. I mean, it almost seems better suited for little kids, but then you hear lyrics and you realize it's better suited for a grown man. When you look into the song, you find out that Kate Miller-Heidke has not had albums out since 2009 and this is technically under her side project Fatty Gets a Stylist and yet it's listed under her name? Seriously, I'm so confused on so many levels; I love it!
16. Alexis y Fido - “Energía”
- There's a remix of this going around and it is horrible compared to this, haha. Since I always like at least one raggaeton song, and this is the only one I have from this year, I had to include this. Also, since it's Alexis y Fido, of course it was going to be high on my list. I also like translating this and learning new Spanish words. This year's word? Energía, haha. Too bad it has no video... I blame Vato on ATRL.
15. Dev - “In The Dark”
- This probably would have been in the top 10, if not top 4, if it wasn't for the fact that it became overplayed like crazy. Not only that, but the video was just very... WTF. Honestly, I hate when I tend to like something a lot and then the radio overplays it. I don't know why that's always been a problem with me. Regardless, this is one catchy gem and the lyrics are fun, so much that the song actually became a running joke. Actually, a lot of my friends started playing this a lot too, so yeahh, nevermind, I'll reconsider moving it down if I keep writing about how much I heard this. If you haven't heard this by some miracle, I'd definitely recommend it!
14. Kelly Rowland ft. Lil’ Wayne - “Motivation”
- Another song with very fun lyrics with the music matching the feeling, though some of this just got ridiculous. Of course, I am referring to Wayne's part. "When I'm done, she hold me like a conversation" What does that even mean?! I mean, based on the overall innuendoes, I can somewhat understand what you've been talking about, but you've got some complicated mind to come up with such phrases. I mean, "I put her on my plate, then I do the dishes" is pretty creative when you think about it but then when you think about it with Lil' Wayne, you can lose your lunch. Let's just go back to Kelly Rowland, shall we? There's some weird way that Kelly Rowland makes this sound so classy, even though she's still singing about such wide-selling topic. If you need a song for your sex playlist (I never knew people had such things until this year... something I didn't want to ever know, actually) or just like Kelly Rowland, check it out!
13. Jagged Edge ft. Rick Ross - “Lipstick”
- Alright, so this just makes me feel good. I mean, I really wish I wore lipstick and high heels because man, this would be such a great song to get ready or strut with. There's really no other reason for this song being on my list but how it just feels good... and I really think anyone into lipstick or heels should check this out, haha. Leave me alone, I can have some guilty pleasures.
12. Nicolas Jaar - “Keep Me there”
- There are not many lyrics to this song but it's another song that just makes me feel good whenever I hear it. Actually, it's the last song on my list that will have no video (so the top 10 will definitely be singles). It starts off so slow and relaxing but then gets into more adorable sound and then blasts into the perfect mix of jazz, while not using many vocals at all. It's seriously an amazing song if you want something more instrumental. I'd love to do a formal dance to this, if I knew how to... if you haven't figured it out yet, the theme is Tron because I've been into more beats and instrumentals than usual
11. Swedish House Mafia - “Save The World”
- What a great video. Honestly, I've been into this song intensely throughout the year, but the video sold it the best. I mean, it has dogs. Adorable dogs. Saving the world. How awesome is that? I wish I gave their album more of a shot but I'm glad at least I remember their great single, since it stood out repeatedly when I saw it on TV, heard it on Spotify radio, and heard it on my iTunes shuffle. Rediscovering it has been quite fun because near the middle I'd realize I already liked the song, haha. It's just so refreshing.
