ATRL: Why do some people think being gay is a choice?

That's normal for bisexuals, though, isn't it? I mean, when you're in a relationship with a woman, you're not going to have feelings for men because your feelings are going to be for the woman you're with, but that doesn't completely wipe away the fact that you do like men and you find men attractive.

This reminds me of learning about object permanence in developmental psych.

If people could do that, no one would dislike anything because we'd all simply be able to choose to like it. Your saying that homosexuality is a choice because you're a bisexual and can choose to be with a man or a woman is so stupidly ignorant.
What about people that are fully homosexual or heterosexual? By your logic, they can just "turn off" their gay/straight feelings right? What happens then? Do they just become asexual?
Your stupid, flop view of sexuality is not the problem. The problem is that you're using your stupid, flop view to tell others that their sexuality is a choice when it's clearly not.

I'm not trying to tell anyone about their sexuality. Are you pressed because you've tried suppressing your gay feelings but it didn't work? Just accept your sexuality like I've accepted mine. If I decide I want to spend the rest of my life with a woman and raise a family I can! Unfortunately you don't have that option. Please do not take it out on people of ATRL.

Sexuality is such an obtuse subject and, in essence, is up to the individual to define. I don't think there's anything wrong with thinking sexuality is a choice as long as you're not like, "Being gay's a choice and that is why it's wrong."
Though, there is evidence to support that our brains are hard-wired a certain way, which means what we're going to be attracted to sexually is defined when our brains develop. I guess some people don't see it that way because they think that since they're choosing to stick their penis into a vagina, that it means they're choosing their sexuality.
Everything's so fascinating.

Oh, come on now... If anything, it sounds like you're the one suppressing your desire for the **** because you want to be "normal". What you don't understand is that deciding who you want to be with =/= deciding your sexuality.

Bisexuality is kind of a loophole in this situation. The better question is "did you choose to feel attraction to both men and women?" Whether you're ****ing taken by a man or woman doesn't matter. Did you choose to feel attraction to both men and women?

This sounds like some 12 year old girl who was on Tumblr. She said a **** ton of things like,
"I'm 12, but I look 22! I like sex, drinking, and swimming LOL!"
but the line that this reminds me of was.........
"I'm bisexual but I would never date or kiss a girl ew".............

It also proves that he/she doesn't understand what sexuality is. I'm gay 100%, but if I CHOSE to marry a woman, that wouldn't make me straight.

I didn't mean to be harsh. But I feel offended by how he is trying to label me.

I understand that sexuality isn't black and white. But identifying yourself as a gay man and then marrying a woman does not make you heterosexual.

Nobody's labeling you. This is a discussion over whether sexual orientation is a choice or a preexisting trait.

Your second post on this FORUM included the words "I am a bisexual man," I ain't trying to label ****, I'm rolling with what YOU said.
I'm currently in a steady relationship with a man. If, in a few years, we are still together, I will get on one knee, propose to him, and we will get married and have some kids. I have no repressed issues to deal with, so take your snobby, superior attitude elsewhere. Unlike you, I have no desire to repress my feelings and try to propose the heterosexual lifestyle as the only "normal" option for a future.

I'm not even gonna go there!
You clearly are trying to label me, basically by telling me what my sexuality is! How dare you try and tell me what I'm attracted to and whether or not I have full control over my sexual orientation. Like I said sexuality is not simply black and white, no two people have the same sexual feelings. So take your psychology knowledge elsewhere, because your views on human sexuality are extremely limited!

GURL, you said you were bisexual, then you CONTRADICTED IT.
We're simply SAYING WHAT YOU SAID EARLIER, AND NOW YOU'RE BITCHING THAT WE'RE LABELING YOU

I personally believe that being gay is a choice! I am a bisexual man, and when I choose to date a woman, I am only attracted to her and not other men or women. Same thing goes if I date a guy.

I'm sorry, I know it hurts when the facts aren't your side.
You are a MESS.

Which is why it is not a straight up choice. You're being so damn difficult. Nobody is labeling you. We just need you to rid that stupid stereotype from your head.

I'm not trying to make it seem like a straight up choice for everyone. But for me it is! What stereotype are you talking about?

Wait, how is sexuality even considered a label? Isn't a label like goth or preppy, aka, something you choose?
The inconsistencies in your posts, CaliforniaKing, are quite amusing.

The stereotype that all homosexuals choose to be that way. Perhaps you aren't explaining yourself well enough, but given the information in your posts your sexuality is not a choice. You just have a very fluid sexuality, as do most bisexuals. Liking only women at one point and liking only men at only one point doesn't make you straight or gay, it makes you bisexual. And as you said, not all sexualities are the same. You just need to recognize that you are attracted to both genders, even it is only sometimes.
