I agree but it doesn't change the fact that they repressed the **** out of it to guarantee the #1.
Who's to say Katy wouldn't have gone #1 regardless with LFN? What if she had performed on the season finale of AGT? Or did something huge at the VMAs?

And Rihanna has manipulated the charts more than pretty much all artists. Let's not forget that she ALWAYS use to repress her singles to guarantee jumps to #1. SOS, Umbrella, and Take A Bow all got to #1 that way. Repressing was fairly common, but she did it more often and more intensely (waited till airplay was high enough) than everybody else.
GaGa's 99 cent album thing is probably THE worst from the past year....
People need to get over it. The charts are just a game.

SOS, Umbrella, Take A Bow, Live Your Life, Only Girl, What's My Name? and S&M were all manipulated. 7 out of ten.

Oh yes it was. Mariah is the Queen of chart manipulation. I'm not gonna get into that.

Well TBH, I would also include Rude Boy as it was gaining in airplay before being released digitally. That's how it made huge strides up Billboard and topped the charts in 4 weeks

A song skyrocketed to no. 2 after it discounted its single to 49cents back in 2001.

By your logic, radio edits should be counted separately, and that's not something I tend to agree with.
However, I would fully support remixes like these to chart independently, only because of how it's being used today.

I'd say SOS, Umbrella, Take A Bow, Only Girl, and S&M were all manipulated #1s. The other 5 were fine.

Who was releasing their songs immediatley to digital retailers back in 2008 or 2007 though? It was very uncommon.
I just don't look at supression the same way I do the remix trend that Rihanna has made very popular in pop.

Download suppression isn't chart manipulation. Well, it is in the UK, but it's not the same in the US. That's how things work, or used to, in the music industry. Before the Digital Age songs were send to radio stations for them to spin it, and promotion would follow (Music video and etc..). Def Jam, being Def Jam, suck at everything they do, so that's the result of that.
