It depends on how successful No Doubt was. I'm not too familiar with them, so I'm unsure if it's enough for her to become a legend. I think she would be though, she is extremely famous, talented, gorgeous, and iconic enough

Tragic Kingdom went diamond back in the day and is considered by some one of the best albums of the 90s.
I'm a bit dubious when it comes to calling Gwen a legend, though, as much as I love her.

But the thing about Rihanna is...she has all of the makings for a successful artist, but that's about it. She's not too famous out of that spectrum. For example, when you think of someone who can churn out hit after hit, you'd first think of Rihanna (or Katy) because that's what she does. But when you think of fashion, or tours, or inspiring figures in music, or controversial figures, iconic personality, etc, she is no where to be found in those areas. Those are the areas that seperate the icons from the legends because the legends have it all. They have the music success, and then they have more than that. That is why Britney is a legend, Beyonce is gonna be one right after this era, and Gaga has the makings to become one very quickly. And that's where Rihanna needs to step up her game to actually be taken seriously

I'd disagree. Rihanna has hits, she has albums, she has fashion, and she has a personality that is becoming more well known with each interview. She definitely needs to improve as a live performer but I can see she is going to become a legend if she continues on this track. Not to mention she keeps improving. People will take notice of that eventually.

I'm torn on this. She definitely has the music success part down, and her voice has been revered since forever ![rip](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRLSmilies/rip_zpsec10ede9.gif) . She has the iconic part down pack, but I'm not sure if she's a legend. If Bionic was successful like B2B, she would have became a legend. I'm not so sure right now

When I think of "LEGENDS" I think of Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Aretha, They are/were artist with true TALENT. And the only ones I think would fit into that category is Britney and Beyonce. ...I think that Lady Gaga and Adele would fit also... but we would have to see in the coming years.
...just because they are your fav does NOT mean they will reach legendary status.

I think Christina, as a singer, will be considered legendary. You can't deny that many people, including industry folks, praise her vocals. She is the only singer of our generation who has a spot on Rolling Stone's Top 100 Singers of the Rock Era. That IS crazy.
With that said, her catalog is middling and she doesn't use her voice very properly to be getting that praise.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure Rihanna is beyond Paula Abdul status at this point, though I tend to doubt she'll be considered a legend down the line.

I'd also like to disagree. Rihanna definitely has the hits, she now has the album sales, but not fashion, well imo. When you think of fashion icons, Madonna and Gaga are almost usually what you think of. Even Beyonce comes to mind before Rihanna. Rihanna is a distant 4th or 5th when you think of fashion. If she were to improve on that, she'd be cleared for fashion. And her interview personality is nice, but that's not what I was looking for. It's a personality that sticks out forever, either it being controversial (a la Madonna) or lack of a personality (a la Britney [as of late]). Her personality is nice and all, but nothing is iconic or memorable about it at all. And I totally forgot about live performances, because that is what also seperates legends from icons. Rihanna needs to improve on that, which she continually does and it works

Rihanna has yet to do anything iconic. Besides her singles success. I can't think of one time i thought "yes! Rihanna is a legend in the making". She's yet do something majorly revolutionary for Pop Culture in general. She's missing that spark for me. I can see her becoming an icon but legend is kinda far fetched. I'm not doubt her, but she has ALOT of work to do in order to achieve that status.

A "Legend" nowadays pretty much DOES mean #1's and such. There are plenty of "musicians" who have reached legend status not because of their vocal talent, but because of their number 1's and chart success

Katy having the same amount of #1s as beyonce and britney should say enough.

Legends garner industry respect and become the inspirations of future artists. That is the most important. If you have that..sales and all that other stuff usually comes along with it.
Beyonce (with DC) has made an invaluable contribution to what is considered contemporary R&B. Her trademark staccato singing...fusing hip-hop, pop and traditional R&B so seamsessly into a more modern style. A lot of her rhythmic ideas are heard in a lot of of newer artists.

I reluctantly agree.
I can see future generations warping her terrible vocals into something to be influenced by.

point well taken
I mean it's obviously a combination of aspects that contribute to the "legend" status. But the fools in here comparing Rihanna to the likes of Paula Abdul & Debbie Gibson are delusional.

Rihanna has always been regarded highly for being fashion forward so I don't think that she isn't a fashion icon or very close to it. And Rihanna's personality has been making headlines this era so I can definitely see that becoming something noticeable in the future.

When Rihanna stops improving then I will start to worry.

Lady Gaga
Beyonce
Britney
Christina
Rihanna
Most of them are already legends..
But I'm sure they will be the one who
we'll be still talking about in the next generations... ![Alexz](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ec20fb7f.gif)

Christina's vocals are extremely overrated, she has no control whatsoever. I remember being so impressed by them the first time i heard her voice, which was in lady marmalade but my problem with her is her unnecessary need to show her range in every single song. We all know that she has a powerful voice, the random screams she does in songs are not needed.
One Example: Moves like jagger
