The prosthetics go with the theme of "Born This Way", a new race. The bones are facial features of the new race. Gaga selects a theme and she sticks with it through the entire era. She's not interested in being pretty, she's interested in proving a point and getting that point across. If it were for attention, she would've done it once and stopped. However, she didn't do that. Most people are sick of them, but she's not stopping 'cause they're part of her whole performance.

I love how people put down the prosthetics 'cause they're ugly. You're exactly why she's doing it. She wants you to look past the superficial stuff and see people for who they really are. Gaga knows her fans will eventually look past the horns and see her for who she is, just like they did with her costumes. If you're too superficial to get that looks don't matter, then move on.
