Does the AOTL run remind u anything of the Flashing Lights run? Both took forever to be released, had controversial videos that prevented them to be played regularly and Kanye barely promoted both, yet initial reactions had them set out to be smashes. If AOTL peaks at 22

It's #GOODFriday! In an effort to try and get #KanyeLyrics trending on Twitter, everyone start tweeting your favorite Kanye lyrics with the #KanyeLyrics hashtag.
Example: "She got a light skinned friend look like Michael Jackson, got a dark skinned friend look like Michael Jackson #kanyelyrics"
*If you know anyone with lots of followers try @replying them and getting them to join in.
**Don't use the hashtag more than once per tweet or else it will get marked as spam.
***Use different lyrics for each tweet or else it will get marked as spam
Don't have Twitter? Great time to sign up www.twitter.com and great opportunity to get followers by posting your tweets/twitter in this thread.

Something I found interesting (remember MBDTF & 808s were released at the same time basically)
At this time after 808s released, it had sold around ~1.4m
(source - http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/i...ding-3-15-2009 - it says he was under T.I by 1k, so I just added 22k from his total that was shown from the previous week http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/i...nding-3-7-2009)
MBDTF has sold ~1.1m as we know
Considering 808s has solid promotion (off the top of my head he was on Conan, Ellen, Lettermen, American Idol, did a concert with MTV that was shown (Storytellers), and I'm sure a bunch more I'm forgetting) and 2 very commercial 3x platinum selling hits (peaking at 2 and 3 respectively) - I think this is a good representation of how good MBDTF really is doing without any of that . It sold off acclaim alone

I agree, 808s had 2 huge singles as well..... MBDTF hasn't really had a stable single until now with "All of the Lights" which is somewhat stable. Even worldwide, MBDTF has been a lot more successful then 808s

Ya it's really the only one making any impact, Power + Runaway were too off base with the radio. And it's clear he didn't release them to become hits. Power was to hype up the 'art' phase and the moving portrait, and Runaway was to hype up his movie. He had bigger things in mind
Also someone posted this on www.KanyeToThe.com, I never read it before and it's very interesting! Kinda foreshadows what he did this era (was from February 2009, interview with Vibe magazine)
Quote:
"I wanna make popular music, but I want less fans," West tells Vibe magazine in its February issue. "I want the freedom of having less fans. It's like the freedom of having less money. If you have less money, you have less responsibility."
West, 31, later clarified that by "less fans" he meant having a core devotees of 20,000 who understand him, rather than a massive group of 100,000 followers who like him because he's the popular singer of the moment.
The outspoken Grammy award winning rapper's desires may disappoint some fans but he says he strives for a low-key career like singer Björk.
"It's like Björk. If she wanted to pose naked, you'd be like: 'Oh, that's Björk,'" West said. "But if I wanted to pose naked, people would draw all type of things into it."
Will a striptease be happening any time soon? "I definitely feel like, in the next however many years, if I work out for two months, that I'll pose naked. I break every rule and mentality of hip-hop, of black culture, of American culture."

 - we even know about his 'nudes' that did leak eventually

Yep,
It's too bad mainstream radio will only play "those kinds of songs" if you know what I mean

That is interesting.... the wanting less fans part

Even if he wants less fans, he will never reach the status of Bjork, imo. lol

Most acclaimed mainstream star of our generation.
His lowest metacritic rating is higher than most artist's highest. Dissed by two presidents and still ********. Who else?

Yep
Some artists struggle to get a 75 for their albums
He has already done so much in his career MBDTF was a huge jump in critical acclaim Can't wait for all the new material that is going to come out Commercial performance isn't that important anymore in my opinion, as long as the music is incredible, which it always has been

Agreed. He should literally just go all out and make the most risqué album ever, I would love that

Watch the Throne Essentially Finished
Jay-Z & Kanye West’s "Watch The Throne" Is Essentially Finished
Engineer Young Guru says Watch The Throne just needs "little tweaks" and another solo from Jay may be coming soon
Longtime engineer for Jay-Z and DJ/producer Young Guru recently spoke to Vibe about the state of the highly anticipated Watch The Throne.
“Right now, I’m really trying to get Jay and Kanye to hurry up and finish this Watch The Throne album because the world needs to hear it," Young Guru said. “It just needs little tweaks and things like that. But the core of the album is finished.”
The album, which has had two tentative release dates come and go, will likely feature production from Kanye West, No I.D., Q-Tip and Pete Rock.
“Kanye takes what they do and adds on to it and I think that’s his genius," Young Guru added. "I say this all the time ‘Kanye records are never the same twice, while he’s making them because they always grow.’
Looking beyond this high profile collaboration, Young Guru thinks Jay is plotting his next album already.
"Jay’s a consummate thinker, so sometimes he’ll call and be like ‘yo what do you think about this.’ And he said this idea to me that I wish I could tell the world about. Some ideas are so simple and in-your-face, that they’re so incredibly smart," Guru continues. “So this next idea— when you hear this title — the world is going to say ‘why didn’t Jay think of that for the first album.’ The title and concept just fits in perfectly. It’s so simple, but yet so elegant at the same time. [Jay] can’t stop, it’s in his blood.”
