Profit
Network: FOX // Seasons: 1 (Cancelled) // Genres: Drama, Thriller // Trailer
Okay, this is probably the biggest flop show I've ever watched, I mean, the site I grabbed the show from only had 63 previous downloaders.
You know that show, Breaking Bad? What about Dexter? Mad Men? The Sopranos? The Shield?Profit gave birth to those.
Profit was the first series to feature a “dark” & complex anti-hero for the viewer to root for. The pioneer if you will, for the series’ that are most lauded today.
Unfortunately, not many people in 1996 (the greatest year ever
) were ready for something like this, and it was cancelled after 3 episodes excluding the pilot. But thankfully all 8 episodes that were shot got released on DVD. Viewers were calling in outraged at the content of the show
Dexter airing on CBS teas.
As far as I saw, the only “issue” (using that lightly) with the series is how 90s it is (obviously this didn't matter IN the 90s). Which isn't a bad thing at all in this case. Majority of Profits elements are still present in Television today, and I now know that things I love and take for granted in my favorite Dramas trace back to Profit. #ThankGoodnessForProfitOrTVWouldBeCrap
Jim Profit is a sociopath (but very likeable lol), his end goal is not what people would expect. He doesn't want power or money, per se, he wants a family. The way he schemes and does some unthinkable things to get what he wants is pretty ruthless. Even in the pilot we know what type of person he is (terrible). And every episode ends with him going to bed in the most disturbing and unconventional way I've seen.
If you're a fan of the shows I mentioned earlier on in comparison, Profit is worth checking out. Had it got the chance it deserved it would've been monumental. For now I guess it's just a hidden gem. Hopefully it lands on Netflix and they revive it, because I'd be here for it. Adrian Pasdar is not doing anything important.
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Network: HBO // Seasons: 8 (Ongoing) // Genres: Comedy // "Trailer"
I finished this fast. I'm too young to really know much on Larry David like that but I did know he co-created Seinfeld & had his own show.
I had always heard about Curb, either through Television publications or forums or whatever. It was always on my watch list, so I finally decided to burn through it. I dunno if it's the best Comedy series ever, that award goes to Eastbound & Down for me for now; but it's hilarious from beginning to end among other things. There's no script for the show, they're improvising everything which makes it even more impressive and humorous.
I think the show got better as it went on, and intensified when JB Smoove joined the cast (best comedic duo ever after Sanford & Son?) and a certain SOMEONE that I HATED got the boot.
Larry is just a mess, but a thorough New Yorker. The show starts out in LA and Larry just doesn't get with the program no matter what. He gets himself in far too many jams whether it's him being far too blunt with his opinions or general immaturity.
As I was binging the series, it got announced that Curb was going to come back officially, so I got in at the right time! Even if you're not an avid television fan, I think you can get into this one. I've seen some of Seinfeld since I finished Curb, and thus far, Curb is the better show. Just a lot funnier/enjoyable in general with a better set of characters and settings.
I can't wait for more.
