Heart Station actually had singleS to promote it and if I remember correctly, she was also on Music Station and other shows promoting. Whereas, she only have 1 physical single release a year or two ago and 2 digital singles with little to no promo and the sale climate is different and she doesn't have a million version like some people, if she wanted to have a DVD version, & it could have gone 90k or even 100k.
THIS is actually pretty good numbers ! Japanese market is dying too especially for pop girls (rip Kumi & Ayumi ).
I hope that she will do more promo, she's not a front loaded artist so I think it will have longevity.
She's definitely lost a lot of power. I can't pretend that she didn't. But she's been gone a long time and right now idols and classic rock acts own popular music. Should be in line with Namie's last album, which, while also a decline, was still after all the #1 female solo album of the year. It'll be tight between Utada and Kana this year.
I mean, they aren't bad at all, but I expected better and she should be able to do better, especially with all of the promo and the fact she had a digital hit.
Decent numbers! Not amazing but it's not like she was ever gonna be doing 1M+ or even HS numbers. Good album too. I wonder if she'll beat _genic.

Utada has always made it clear that she enjoys music and releases at her own pace because SHE wants to. You're insinuating some kind of mythical label situation where she's being forced by the label to release more slowly to optimize her sales which is just pure fantasy. I understand your need to resolve your cognitive dissonance and explain why Utada sold more than your uglee fav for like a decade (and continues to), but not today sis.
And the fact that you don't think Utada had anything against her when she was gone for such a long time tells me that you don't know the first thing about the Japanese music market so this conversation is pointless
Calm it, girl. It's not like she's doing much better.
I thought the 1M delusion stopped after people had seen UHSC vol. 2 sales. I mean, we know Japan loves compilations so this should be like the biggest we would expect from Hikki.

Yep, let's not forget this. You have girls selling like 5 different versions of the same album to optimize sales and Fantome has only got a CD version.
Yeah I was hoping for more but can't be too disappointed after the quality she served. She's been gone for so long and there are only three pop songs on the album. Just nice to see music this good still being promoted and selling well.
I don't think irrelevant is necessarily the right word, but it is definitely less important there than virtually anywhere else
Not true. Ariana's "My Everything" album was recently certified Gold in album downloads only for selling 100,000 copies, bringing the physical & digital download total to just under 300K.
Oh man
The end of an era I suppose....Japan has fallen out love with queen Utada.
I mean these numbers are good but they do signify the end of her total chart dominance and control over the Japanese market....

Yea exactly. I understand people wanted her to come back and be the #1 artist on the scene, but that wasn't the case when she left in 2010 so I don't see how you could expect that 6 years later. She's doing really well per market standards (physically) and she could be doing really well digitally for all we know at the moment.
She's always been a strong digital AND physical seller

Eh, Taylor's Red was certified gold for 100,000 digital albums. Being the first one to do so. Which brings Red to just under 500k there. (Digital + physical)
