I only replied because I had been encouraged to by Guests watching the thread, and to educate any Members reading.
If they want to continue after the scientific facts, global health advice and the law is stated, then that's their problem.
Are you offended? I'm not. I'm severely concerned that a community of LGBT - of all people - knows so little about this..

ANYWAY HIV is NOT a death sentence anymore, it's completely treatable. Understand that. Those saying it's attempted murder is ridiculous as HIV doesn't even kill you.
This is how I see it. If you're HIV positive and you're not taking medication and you willingly have unprotected sex with someone without telling them and they become infected, then yes you should be charged with reckless endangerment.
If you're HIV positive and you're undetectable AND you use protection, the chances of you infecting someone is almost impossible. However I think it is always your responsibility to tell people your status, regardless of your viral load. There's no excuse to not tell someone your status. It is also people's responsibility to USE condoms if they don't know someone's status. It takes two of you to tango, if you go out having unprotected sex with people you barely know then you are also at fault.

Yes but on the other side it's really stupid to have anal sex with no condom so it's your own responsibility as well

You've always been so polite and kind when it comes to HIV+ people and you don't seem discriminatory towards them.

Sure, it's only one pill a day but you must NEVER miss taking a pill and the medication has numerous side effects that could leave you feeling very ill. Not to mention that even with insurance, these pills are extremely expensive.
So for those that don't think it's that serious, they still need to realize that life isn't peachy keen when they're affected.

Most treatments have side effects, whether they're for HIV or for some other condition. There are people who don't experience the side effects at all. On the other hand, the WHO guarantees the treatment for free for those who live with the condition and once their load is minimum or undetectable, they're not a risk. That is why HIV+ people, at least in my country, have to go to the doctor every three or six months to see how they're developing with the treatment and how their CD4 cells react to it and the load decreases.
We are by no means saying it isn't that serious.

I agree with everything you said. I did not mean that anyone on ATRL thinks it's no big deal ... I'm speaking for some of the uneducated people that live in my city. Sadly, there are men that think it'll be a cake walk if they were to get infected.

You didn't educate me on anything and I'm very knowledgeable on global health I know quite a bit about HIV/Aids. But I don't care how far the science goes, there is NO excuse for not telling the person you're sleeping with that you have a life threatening disease that is often sexually transmitted. No, HIV is not a "death sentence", yet it is still life threatening. I'm not "uneducated" because I think people should inform people of that before having sex.

People can lie about their status or not knowing it at all. HIV is sadly stigmatized. You may have a point but some other users in here don't. They simply say yes because they support unprotected sex.

It is life threatening. There may be treatment, but it is still an innately life threatening disease.

Having HIV does not make anyone a criminal.
It is as life threatening as any other sexual transmission disease, diabetics, high blood pressure or any other condition. Your point?
Not all the people who live with the condition is looking forward to have unprotected sex. Because of people like you, we have plenty of people hiding their status and that won't change for a while.

They should be charged if they don't say.
You can argue you gotta protect yourself but what if you become romantically involved and don't use one after a long trusting relationship ? It's awful to not tell someone.

Most people with HIV end up telling their partners what their condition is after they become romantically involved. Some people are acting here like HIV is the only STD. Did some of you know HPV can cause cancer and kill the infected person as well? Most of them don't end up well if they're left without treatment.

To be honest I think they probably should tell the other person if they are HIV+.
I mean regardless everyone should be practicing safe sex anyway, it doesn't matter your status. It's just common sense and better for your health.
I would personally rather someone told me they had HIV (or any other STDs) before we had sex though.

It's already a crime in most places in America to not disclose your HIV.

I swore it was already illegal (in America). Some dude went around spreading the disease to a bunch of dudes for a few years and now he's doing jail time.
