But tbh, comparing the number of Athletes is very flawed. If we are comparing gold medals, which I was, we are comparing the 'crème de la crème' of both countries. You're theory would stand more if comparing total medals but in Gold Medals, only one athlete/team can win anyway so it is whoever is the best.
Also, we are talking about 60% more medals for said EU countries than the US so any discrepancies in my population to medal comparison would be weighed out by the landslide difference.
The point is essentially that Americans are not 'above everyone else' or superior sportsmen, they just have more people. European countries would be well capable of matching the US medal count if they had the population pool to choose from.
